high oil usage!?!

Since I have changed my oil and are now on 5 30 fully synth. I seem to be using around a litre for every 1000 miles driven?

At the weekend I dis approx 700 miles and the dip stick was below min. I then put in 3/4 of a litre to get it almost full, this is now down to the moin mark after another 442 miles ?

Is this right? Doesnt seem to smoke so all I can think is its burning oil due to my thermostat ?

Any advice is welcome.

Think yourself lucky I'm using a litre every 100 miles :roll: :roll: and no there are no external oil leaks.

Hi how many miles has it done?
Could be that 5 / 30 might be a little thin for a higher milage engine,
10 / 40 might be better?
Does it smoke under load?
My old Audi used to guzzle oil when pulling the caravan.
But it didn't blow the bearings!!!!

Hi 124K does not smoke under load but after overrun i.e. braking on engine. My driving technique was old school braking on engine but had to adopt modern style using brakes only! :roll:

Most likely valve stem oil seals need replacing. Have found 15/40 reduces smoking. 🙁

i've just changed to volvo oil it was either 0/30 or 5/30 cant remember and that is £85 5 litres and its shit hot oil, changed from 10/40 and its 112k not a problem

:shock:  That is expensive oil!

I just use the GM recomended stuff AC Delco or somthing £12 for semi syn or £17 for fully.

When i do alot of town driving mine uses around 1ltr every 1.5K, doesnt seem to use as much when i do long mway journeys.

Hi I would use fairly cheap oil semi synth 10 / 40 which would mean that the seals and valves are less likely to leak, mine is on 94k and the values burn oil massively on start up! oh well its a vauxhall I remind myself.
I shoulld have gone for 1.8 but pride got better of me!

i hav dont about 1000m with that gm long life stuff 5 30 fully synth aint used a bit ! BUT it depends on how u drive it wen its worm n up,well i think it is bcuz i hav checked it sum timen the past and its as burnt a bit! but hey all cars do! even vauxhall will tell u that ! 😃
