What's it worth??????

well from previous posting you will know that my car has a cracked head.
it has come to the time where i either have to bite the bullet and replace the head/engine with a new or recon item or get a different car.
being a strapped for cash person at this time of year as most of us are i have been quoted about £480 for a complete head+ i will need to replace the chains persee due to vx inability to design something correctly.
all in all it will be about a grand. i also want to double check that the big end bearings are ok as i had an oil leak and was down about .75-1ltr from the low mark.
only noticed as i went to reverse turn into my driveway and got the oily smell come through the vent system.
So the big question is what is my car worth.
it is the 2.2 cdx hatchback version with full s/h first reg in 2001.
if any of you can give me some prices or if anyone knows where i can get a good cylinder head at a sensible price and or bits then pse message me or post your reply here,

Sorry to here your at this stage chap. 🙁 the trouble is its probably only worth what some one wants to give you for it dunno.. the very first car i rebuilt an engine on was a 2.0 dohc ford. it too had a cracked head, that was 10 yrs ago and i got the car for £50 to get it off the guys hands. i,m not saying that your motor is only woth that cos its worth every penny to you when you spend oyur time ,energy and money on it, it's only that to every one else its broken and wanhts loads to put it right. its a dilema I hope im not in do I spend top dollar to put it right or do I just move it on????? notsure.gif sorry to be so negative but thats the situation from my experiance.good luck .

Prob worth about £200-£300 tbh m8....Hutchninson on here and on vvoc bought a y reg estate with a knacked chain for £250 a while back...

well it does make you a bit sick really.
they must have designed the engine on the back of a fag packet during a P*ss Up, spilt some beer on it smudging it a tad, then hey presto here you have it our new fantastic engine design.. puke..
i have checked my e-mail and spam bin and found a couple of quotes for a ''full recon head''
best price so far is £425 worst is special price just for you £600. other bits are going to set me back about £250-£300 (cam chains x2, gasket set and head bolt set& poss water pump).
i could use the old chain as it is a modified version but i think i feel puke.. just thinking about how long it would last.
maybe i could use it as a whip for the delbert that came up with the design of the head and chain....... :lol: :lol:
been looking at a Fabia tdi again as i have had one before and might be able to get a 02 plate with miles on it for £2.6k so there is the quandry. my veccy is dual fuel (lpg) with all the toys.
i think i will give it another day and have a good chat with the mechanic in my local garage and then just roll the dice. whatever the answer is it is going to involve parting with loadsa-money.

oh. is it worth getting them to drop off the sump and check the big end bearings as these also seem to be problematic???
