I am after a bit of advice.

I have a Potterton Lynx 2 combi Boiler "Dont know if that is a good make or not"

But over the last couple of days it keeps justing going to reset, So you reset it by holding the reset button on for 10secs and then seems to work again. We have had tot reset it 3 times over the last 3 days and i have never had to do this before.

I have checked the water pressure which is fine.

Could it be the wind blowing the pilot light out notsure.gif

I dont know anything about boilers really and dont want to get ripped off, so any advice welcome really. Before i call someone in and take there word for it.

P.S it is about 4yrs old.

I had a similar problem in one of my old house's, it turned out to be a small control board, curcuit board that controls the pilot light ignition, I think it receives the inputs from your timer unit as to when you want your boiler to cut in for hot water, the other unit that does that would be your radiator thermostate. hope it gives you some direction.

Well i have also had a look around the net, it looks like you are right most of the fauls that i am having seems to be issues with dry joints on the PCB board. Got an engineer coming out Monday fingers crossed it is a cheap and simple fix. Why do these things happen this time of year?

Glad I could help,as i remember my old control board was about £150 ish 🙁 why this time of year puke..

I'm sure they build them with a pre-set breakdown setting in them. As soon as the temperature outside drops below 5degC, boiler automatically breaks, and you end up having to speak a grand just before Christmas

Yep i'll second that, I think mine was about 4yrs old when it went 🙁

The one we have at the minute it probably older than me! When we had the cooker fitted, the bloke who fitted it showed that when the boiler is on, we get an 8bar drop in pressure on the gas, so it's leaking somewhere (more than likely straight out of the flu). We're going to get some more money on the mortgage next April and have all the central heating replaced while we go on Holiday for a week.

Just had my boiler serviced last week and had the pressure release valve replaced. Its supposed to operate at about 1.2 bar but since thay've played with it its pressure keeps going upto 3.5 bar and the release valve opens leaking water over the path outside. Me thinks he'll have to call them back.

Things just dont last as long as they used to, like you say i am sure they have a inbuilt timer in them that shuts it down just when it is cold and finances are tight.

Had a look at PCBs and they range in price from 150 - 238.

I would get him back out to it as well Johnny.

My boiler packed in about 2 weeks ago....just as it was getting colder.....man from heating company came out....diagnosed a faulty pcb ( potterton Prima)...Said he'd order one in..after 3 days of no water and heating he came and fixed it...all well since...

Well a small update, Had no reset light on for a day now, but the boiler showed low pressure, i re-pressurised the system to 2bar to find warm water flowing nicley out of the overflow pipe.

The pressure has dropped again.

Was the PCB board expensive Daz?

Mines fixed!! Needed a new supply valve as the old one was jammed up with limescale. the water was seeping into the bolier causing the pressure to build up and then trip the release valve.

Engineer has been out today, got a small leak on the system, which has corroded a part and also the pressure release valve is shot.

All parts have been swapped out and leak now sorted.
