What is the make/model of the network card in your PC at the minute Ian?
The transfer speed will all depend on whether the card can operate at the same speed as the router. Both my card and router operate and 802.11g (54mb/s). The 802.11g+ is OK if you are streaming media on your internal network, but you'll see no improvement on browsing the web etc.
