GSi fibreglass bumper ??

As title, are these any good ?

Looking on ebay, you can buy them fairly cheap. I suppose it will be a fair amount to have it sprayed, but nearly £450-£500 for an original and to have that sprayed too is a lot of money for a bumper !!!

Has anyone got a fibreglass GSi bumper ? What do you think they are like ?
One more question !!! Do they look the same once painted ?

i am after a GSI bumper as well. i dont want to buy anything on an impulse. hoping to see a good deal on an irmscher one already painted to my car colour...but no luck...
there is a bloke on ebay who does GSI bumper for £95 - £120 and fitting £35 and painting £110....i will still wait for a genuine one already painted.

it depends on the quality of the copy dunno..

some are total rubbish, others are very good copies.

they take some fitting, but can look just as good.

my advice, find a secondhand genuine bumper 🙂

As Neil has said, fibre glass ones are a nightmare to fit and i've heard some horror stories about them. Wait a while and you're sure to come across one eventually. It will be worth the wait and it'll be the proper job.

Or save up for a while and buy an originol one....so much less hassle than trying to get a poor copy to fit....

does the insurance company need to be informed if after market bumper or spoiler or headlights or wheels are fitted? if i dont inform them, will it affect my probable future claim, coz they take pics and will know its modified from the manufactureres standard...just curious...has anybody informed their insurance companies of such modifications?

You should inform them, I know of cars being modified and then future claims going in with the insurance company not being cleared, if there is anyway they can get out of paying they will, I have first hand experiance with this myself :evil: I would advise you toinform them.

Definately inform the insurance about the bumper or you'll find yourself up sh1t creek as they say!

Yep, anything that didn't come as standard on the Model of car you bought should be added to your insurance policy just incase.

first thing monday morning !!!! the spoiler , 18" wheels , a probable bumper.will tell the insurance company...I hope there is not a significant increase in my Premium....... just wondering, I have 18" wheels, its pretty close to the arches. Would it still be possible to lower the car a bit?

Get a genuine one mate, i've had one of each on my old veccy's but i'd say get a genuine one.

I have finally bought a genuine Irmscher GSI bumper and pair of fog lights to go with them. Total £245. The bumper is the same colour as my car, but the paint has come off in a few places. I am planning to get it painted.

Wonder how much it would cost to pain the whole car to metallic star silver??

update - I deserve a pat on my shoulder(and I did pat myself). Fitted the GSI bumper myself !!! It was worth the pain, working in cold probable chill blains. It looks nice. getting it painted on tuesday for £200. They did a nice job on rear bumper paint, so trust that bodyshop.....will post pics soon...
Unfortunately, still cant find the brackets that hold the fog lights.Looking on ebay...checking with local car breakers... So did not fit the fog lights.....vroom vrooom vrooooooooom pop pop pop pop vrooooom

I did mine in about 3 hours cutting sanding etc and i am well please with it as it was a good copy to start with.
