Timing Chain Markings

Spent most of Saturday stripping the engine down for a few tweaks showo..

Aligning the crank/camshafts to TDC, I couldn't see any bright coloured timing marks on the chain??
Vauxhall did the timing chain a couple of years ago as a recall, and the cars only covered about 15,000 miles since so I don't really see the point in changing the chain.
Do the timing marks wear off over time?

you don't need to change the chain, but there should be blue and purple coloured links notsure.gif

have you checked the oil jet size dunno..

if the chain has siver and bronze coloured markings it's the old chain :shock:

I've not checked the jet size yet but does have the correct markings on the chain tensioner - will defiantly check at the weekend.

I didn't notice the links been bronze or silver either....... but I may of just not noticed them been covered in oil. Will investigate at the weekend.

Is there any difference between the old/new chain?

I don't think so, but the chain kit comes with the different coloured links, if it's got the old chain then the kit wasn't fitted dunno..

they might have just changed the oil jet

What is the thing about the oil jet size as im about to do my mates veccys cam chain that jumped a couple of teeth and managed to bend a few things

you will get the new oil jet in the chain kit, the old oil jet will probably be 1mm, the new jet is 4mm

ok thanks got a chain kit now also mine is a 150 1.9 cdti any known probs with these
