astra 2.2 mg zr 1.8 120bhp

hi every 1! i wanna know y my mate mg zr 1.8 keeps up we mine till bout 100mph ? is itjust because its lighter ? i know rover blow H/G bit the engines r tuned ok 4 wot they r!! wot can i do dunno..

All sorts of factors could be a part of it. Age of both cars, are both cars standard. Does yours need a service / has a fault, and then there is driver skill also to know when to do the correct gear change. I know you are talking to a 100 but The 0-60 times are not far off either

MG ZR 0-60 - 8.6
2.2 0-60 - 7.9

I hope all your test are been done on a private road.

I also found that out of the box my standard 2.2 seemed fairly slow. But a few cheap mods will soon help.

mines 03 P his is a 04 P and mine is serviced spot on oil change every 2th and his dont even know wot a service is lol and yes it just a 1.8 normal mg! but he drive like a mad n every where he dont know wot 30mph is lol

If its a 1.8 VVC it has 160bhp. That will kill a standard 2.2 Vectra. Believe me, I know. There is also a MG ZR 120. I'd imagine that would be quite lively too.

noooooooooooooooooooooo its not the 160bhp its my mates its 120 bhp dont think ot wrong wid my car cuz its give n ot else a run 4 it money !!! its just that the engines r kick n sum good power out 2 the road the mg keeps up wth most things up 2 about 80mph but hey still good hey 4 a mg mine got ported T/B and P/filter !

just remind him his head will warp and he will need a new head gasket every week, good old k series.

You may find that it has a 4 branch manifold as standard too. Daz found that the Rovers came standard with them.

lol he had it from new!! and i told him that it done 40k nah not 1 service just stright thrash from cold and just only the other day he said why im i lose n water i hav 2 keep top n it up once a week! lol erm maybe a new way of swich n from fule 2 water u got !! but still not bad 4 mg must say 🙂

The local Rover techy once told me that the average life for a head gasket on the K-series was around 40k. You never know, he may be having problems soon?

i done headgasket on rover with 10 k on the clock they go wen they want ! the 1s with the plastic dowles r the worst but if u got metal 1s u got a bit more time 2 drive it lol my mate used 2 work at rover and he said he seen them come of lorry with em gone! wot a good car 2 hav :lol:

The rover K series was the main reason I bought a Vx instead of an elise 🙂 Just didnt fancy buying a car which would be gareented to blow up at some point :shock:

yep do look nice ! dont know if i should b say n this but i did hav a mg lol 2ltd different engine!! but yep think my mates headgasket started lol :lol:

u not wrong there it went all right chiped up and that not bad 4 a diesel

I think you`ll find that the Elise uses a metal head gasket similar to the z22se item rather than the diesigned on the back of a fag packet jobbie the Rovers use. Also there is a little bobbin that lives in the inlet manifold that restricts flow that needs to be removed as well.
