I have a 2001 Y reg vectra 2.2 SRi Est and up to now has run perfect and I have looked after it - FSH (some non vxh) reg oil change ,etc
coming home from work on back lanes with no warning the EML came on and the car stopped - didn't go into limp mode - just lucky I wasn't going around a corner!! Got the car towed home and computer showing Throttle problem!? thought it wouldn't be a big job!
Have since found out the cam chain snapped and took out 10 valves, might be more yet. The cars done 76000 miles - where do i stand with vauxhall? Didn't know anything about the problem oil jet till coming on this site - now angry vauxhall are letting us drive around in potentially dangerous cars- why wasn't ours recalled - which cars were?
After reading some useful tips on here phoned Vauxhall Customer Services and got no where 1st time but 2nd call was offered "as a gester of good will"' some money towards cost of parts if we took the car to a main dealer and they confirmed it was a technical fault! - but I can't afford to get the car 25 miles to our nearest garage or the £45 ph hour to look at fault (2 close to xmas).
I have purchased the parts (new chain and 10 valves so far) from Vauxhall and am doin it with mechanic mate - I still feel Vauxhall are libable for the cost of the parts - has anyone tried this and got anywhere? why offer guesture of good will if not guilty - a simple recall and this wouldn't have happened.
Any suggestions - anyone else in the same situation and done a DIY repair - what else might have gone? Binzo
