to a proper job on the chain change? its just that i live in deepest darkest kent and (although i dont actually know where it is) wolverhampton and benny sounds a heck of a long way away.

My local garage are pretty good at most things (depending what scrote you get) is it that complicated that you need to go to a "real" specialist?

(by the way 2000 model with 62K and hardly any history at all !!! but no diesel rattles that i can hear ??)

A cam chain is what it is and there are plenty of other cars with cam chains. Its just the same as a cam belt change but messy.

As Johnny says any decent Garage should be able to do it. I would find a price out first though. It may be worth the trek to see benny.

As johnny says same as a belt.
working in an independent garage I know you may think most are dodgy but most like us have regular local customers and have to work even harder to keep them, and bad word off mouth travels faster than good so I wouldn't worry to much.

i would take it to dealership but i would recommend going to benny good things are worth the trip

First time i had chain problems i had it towed to a local garage, cost a fortune, wasnt fully assembled again things like airbox were just plonked back in. And the engine was covered in oil, hand prints all over the rocker cover etc.

With current car, had the chain replaced as a precaution really, had no noises. Drove 160 miles to wolverhampton to have benny replace it. Very reasonable price, you get to watch you engine being stripped, top notch work carried out and you cant tell the engines been apart when he's finished 🙂

I'd say pay the money in petrol and take it up to Benny. Yes it'll be a 3 hour each way trip but it'll probably cost you more at a garage and Benny does a bloody good job 🙂

Dealerships have the upperhand, no question. They work on the same cars most of the time. But they cost alot more.

Once you have done a dualmass flywheel on a Vectra C for instance, grrrrrr, the next one takes half the time and you know exactly what to do.

I personaly dont trust many garages whatsoever, DIY.

Hi all i owned a vauxhall sintra a few months back that was a 2.2 put it into the garage to get timming belt replaced and wouldn,t use another garage timming wasn,t set right and belt came off after 1500 miles,went back to the garage they wouldn't take the blame that the job was a bouch up but i did find out they paid off the guy that done the job.

I wouldnt JamesJ, over 12 months ago i booked in for the said job on good recommendation in the trade- The comments bring it back if it rattles its good for 100k.
This suggests they dont have the knowledge that even we have.

Incidently just caught it in time 3k later, Benny did it at short notice in Ettingshall.

Always weiry of garages, even people tried and trusted for years. 5 engine bolts missing on a Pinto engine the other 3 loose, only taken in for an half shaft bearing in Bushbury. Loads of similar stories even multinational conglomerates, if you want a job doing right either do it yourself or stand over the repairer.
