The standard Astra 17" alloys are 7" wide and ET49. Most people rightly recomend that you stick as close to this as posible, especially if your going to fit bigger diameter rims.
If you want the rims to stick out a little more than standard, then I'd try and find some that are ET40 as Johnny said, much less and your going to have clearance issues.
I have 18" sportstars fitted to the coupe and there just flippin stupid. They are ET35 and 8" wide  to round it off I put 225 tyres on instead of stretch fitting 215's like some people do to get a little more clearance, but I think they look rubbish like that. The fronts are fine to my surprise even lowered 50mm, but the rear arches had no flippin chance, even on the coupe that has slightly bigger arches than the hatch. I had to grind about 5mm off the arch lip and fit the irmscher bumper brackets and I still get the tyre rubbing on the Plastic arch liners slightly when I have a car full and go over a large bump. I'm happy in the end becouse the look the flippin nuts, but its not a path I'd recomend to anyone else. Stick with ET38+ and no more than 7.5" wide rims.
