F23 Gearbox oil amount and type?

I was hoping someone might know how much oil my F23 gearbox requires and the type?

1.55 litres, but I use 3 x 500ml bottles

not sure what type as I buy it from the dealer :roll:

According to Haynes, you fill the oil thru' a very small hole on top of the gearbox. There's a level plug at the rear of the gearbox. You fill it up until the fluid runs out. (1.55 ltrs from empty)

IF YOU HAVE A YELLOW MARK ON THE OIL FILLER PLUG, READ BELOW!!

Once the oil runs out of the hole, replace level plug and continue filling the gearbox with a further 0.5 ltrs of oil. This is part of modification by Vauxhall.

breather pipe at the top of gearbox 17mm spanner fill it there ! 😃

How often you meant to top the g/b oil up? Never done mine although the gear change is slightly more 'notchy' than when I first bought the car... done 88k miles dunno..

I thought I spotted a overflow bolt on the gearbox.

I drained 2.15 ltrs out measured it, car has never been any where else except at VX.

Update on the Amsoil done around 7k. No difference whether hot or cold gears easy to select etc and runs smoother than the synth VX stuff. If anythings smoother mechanically it will usualy mean higher protection on the moving parts, so yes it is better than the VX branded oil possibly supplied by Amsoil to a certain lower spec including additives etc!
