My gear box/clutch???

I couldnt find the original thread so i reposted..

My car has always been a tad dodgey when it comes to selecting 1st and reverse gears from a stationary position??

I have found this mostly when i stop at lights or park up!! I usually have to role forward a bit to get it into gear???

Update.. Seems to be better now since putting slick 50 into it..

Also the trouble with selecting gears without having to push the stick hard seems to be happening when im actually driving it occasonally also now :cry:

might be worth simply bleeding the clutch, the fluid should be changed with the brake fluid every two years 🙂

it's quite a cheap job at a garage, for the hassle I would pay the £30 or so dunno..

How easy is it to change the gear box oil?? maybe i could do this also??

there is a drain plug on the gearbox, you should refill exactly the amount stated for the gearbox 🙂

1.55 litres according to haynes.

i normal take out the breather plug out at the top of the gear box !! 17m spanner 😃

I had my gearbox oil changed the other day and it was just as well. There wasnt a litre in there never mind 1.55 or whatever there should be. Ian at middpoint garage where it was done said it didnt surprise him, hes found loads like that. Its hard to say weather it had enough in there from day one becouse theres certainly no leaks. Anyway, just make sure you use the proper vauxhall gearbox oil and if you havnt had it changed in a long while (if at all), then its worth having it done, made a nice differance to mine!

i had the same problem with mine last winter took it to vx he say puk said over fill the gearbox with oil or you can buy the £160 diy mod kit i did a post some on here to lazy to find i never did any thing about it and its ok now just ram it in if wont go also i've got in to the habit of leaving it in 1st then just pushing the clutch down when starting...

Ok thats cool cheers for that!! I will hopefully get the oil done soon as possible.. I expect it hasnt been done in a long time.. I certainly havent done it in 7 months i have owned the car notsure.gif
