Balance Shaft Chain as well???

I have got a quote from my local garage to do my chain (am also trying Benny).

They are almost insisting that I have the balancer chain replaced at the same time as if one is knackered the other will be. Mr Autovaux says it is only necessary as part of a rebuild.

So what is the collective wisdom on this? I presume Benny only ever does the cam chain or does he do both?

Thanks all for a site that makes me paranoid my engine will go bang every time I visit!

depends upon the mileage of the engine dunno..

at 100,000 miles I would change both

at 50,000 miles I would just change the cam chain kit

in between those mileages, the nearer 100,000 the more inclined I would be to change both dunno..

Benny will fit both if you ask, it doesn't take much longer to change whilst the cam chain is off 🙂

If you are replaceing the chain because of a noise then I would agree with the garage if one chain is noisy due to oil stavation then chances are the other has been staved of oil too??

If you are changing it just to be on the safe side then the choice is yours?

If I were you I would replace both I did small price for complete peace of mind?

Cars got 80K on the clock and does not rattle too much.

I will get both changed for complete piece of mind as I want the car to go on past 100K.

I have been quoted £400 inc vat for both chains locally. Does that sound good? I have spoken to the mechanic and he is aware of what is involved hence telling me to do the balance chain as well.

parts will be at least £200, so is £400 including labour dunno..

if it is, that's dirt cheap :shock:
