tyres hitting arches not good

hi guys. ive got a astra coupe fitted with 17in wheels with 215 45 17 tyres. the problem i have is a soon as i put any one in the back seat or shopping in the boot, go over a bump and the tyres hit the arches at the rear. done it a couple of times at the front but every day if u go over a speed bump they hit on the way down.

the suspension is standard and the wheels came with the car. would smaller profile tyres and lowering springs help or shall i sell them and get sum 18in pentas.

With the standard suspension and basically standard size wheels with 215/45/17, I would think that you've got wanked suspension or wheels with the incorrect offset. The current tyre size is perfect for your car with standard suspension. Are your wheels aftermarket or genuine Vauxhall?

I would be 99.99% sure that is the problem then. I would hazard a guess that your wheels are in the ET30ish range and these are not correct for your car. The standard Vauxhall wheel offset is ET39 upto ET49. Vectra GSi wheels are an ET44 and they fit perfectly.

Also the standard tyre is 40 profile not 45's on the coupe, as mine are 215/40/17

Should be on the inside of the wheel.

That's right. Inner face or on one of the spokes.

thanks lads will have a look in the morning just got in from work. think my wheels are just wrong wrong wrong. dont like them one bit prefer the standard vauxhall range.
