loose chain??

hi all z22se owners

i have a astra bertone 01 plate (y) (2.2)

my car is ticking / clunking at idle and gets very very loud as you rev it.

Is this a loose chain / broken guide??

sounds like metal bashing against metal.

looking at the service history i see its 15k over the service.... shit.

also wondering if my car is effected for the jet mod??

Ta036469 is my engine number.

its now done 62k

me and my dad 1st thought it was the small end / bearing but listening again it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side (airbox side).

IM NOT GOING TO SWITCH IT ON AGAIN (dont want the cam chain to fall off if it is flaping around)

any help / ideas welcome

sounds like the tensioner has failed 🙁

don't start the engine again, get the chain kit replaced :roll:

and change the oil every 10,000 miles maximum

after all that it was a lot worse

Crank is knackered

I just spent £1750 on a new vauxhall engine.

Looks like I will have to do the same with my vectra, chain snapped months ago, had a new chain and new valves cut but 4500 miles later the piston has cracked all caused by the chain snapping I would assume.

note: 1750 was just the engine not the labour.....

hi,
i have just been looking into that and someone recommended enginemart and the VEGE remanufactured engines. cant remember but worth a search. i think it cost £1400 plus £400 fitting,
