I have had what seems to be a misfire for 2 months now that just apperard one day.

I ahve done everything i can to resolve it and finally gave in to let Vaux check the car. They tested everything and said it was fine.

Their conclusin was an internal fault, ie, cam shaft, crank shaft, flywheel, etc.

I have read a few posts about the flywheel being a problem on my car, is that right. I have a 52 plate Vectra C?

In peoples opinion would it be the best bet to replace the flywheel given the info above?

I can get one from Vauxhall for £330 INC VAT, it is a revised part also, not the original which would sugguest there is a problem with the originals.

Or would I be better buying elswhere or a light one?

Any advice on this before I commit would be very helpful.

Is it a random misfire, or always the same cylinder?

Are there any fault codes logged?

not sure how the flywheel would cause a misfire, my vec C has the dual mass and it causes the clutch biting point to move all over the place :evil:

it might be incorrect cam timing, this will cause a misfire but no eml, worth checking dunno..

all you need to do is remove the cam cover and see if the cams are in the correct position when the marks are alligned

I have just collected the car and they say it is not a misfire but more a vibration or judder and it gets worse with more revs.

The timing chain has been checked, its definately an internal fault.

could well be the infamous flywheel 🙁

they don't make a lightened version, only a dealer part 🙁

Just thinking out loud here notsure.gif, the ignition timing is based on the flywheel and the cam rotation. The flywheel is monitored directly by a sensor, but the cam rotation is done by the electronic compression based stuff.. If it has something to do with the ignition being off because of dodge cam sensing? Could it be that the spark plugs are old/dirty and they influence the cam sensing? dunno..

Just wondering..

I have replaced both the crank sensor and spark plugs, also a new coil pack was tried. Remember Tech 2 says everything is as it should be, so muct be mechanical.

The cam timing is a rather clever and complex system, it uses no camshaft sensor but relies on a few components that include the coil pack to determin its position.

Hmm, sounds like it probably is something mechanical. But don't forget that diagnostics tools can't diagnose everything. Not all errors will show up.

With the dual mass, you can actually buy a kit that rids cars of the dual mass flywheels and replace with standard type fly and old style clutch kit. Surley you can buy a Billet fly for the earlier Z22se and clutch and do it that way?

Dualmass flywheel replaced by myself. Cost £330 from my main dealer, that was 25% off and the most current flywheel at present.

The car is now fixed and smooth as a babys bum again.

All in all, not a massive fix, but its knowing that from the start, I spent £200 on other crap trying to fix it.

I never used a new clutch, as mine was fine. The clucth will not damage a flywheel, they die through wear and tear.

Job done. Two new spring on the front too as both snapped 4" off the bottom, feels tighter now and no rattles at all. 12 MOT too.

Seems fairly standard to me. I dont know a great deal about different clutches though.

so basically flat on one side and the centre raised on the other dunno..

There almost the same, but the friction plate doesnt have the springs in it like a standard undualmassed car. The dualmass does this, does removes all vibration.

don't worry I'm trying to sort a clutch plate for my new gearbox :roll:

no springs would make it a racing clutch feel dunno..
