Sourcing Cheap 100 amp Alternator for VX220

Signs are pointing to me having a 120 amp alternator, and I cant take the car apart and leave it cos its me daily drive; so I am thinking of just buying a 100 amp alternator and selling it on if I dont need it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? If I were to go to the scrappys which models will have the correct alternator in?

I just went to a scrap yard and got a 100 amp alternator from a pretty new looking Vectra 2.2. Cost me £50 and it's a pain to remove.

Yes it could be the best.
Any pics of US installed alternator ? Why are they shorter ? no suppressor on them ??

wouldnt the Us alternator rotate the "other" way though?

as c0urtenay bang on about getting a US S/C kit not working right as the UK alternator wont turn the correct way with the belt assembly etc.

the 2.0 sc alternator has a different rotation than a 2.2

the pics above are from a standard 2.2 ecotec 🙂

Is there some sort of issue with you and the chaps at Courtenay? You appear to be quite negative about them in your wording on various posts that I have read on another different site? I just find it a bit unhelpful. With all due respect, you are obviously fairly competent with your knowledge of cars and their mechainical and electrical workings, as are also the engineers at Courtenay. I don't ever seem to see them being negative about an indiviual on this forum such as yourself so why be negative about them? Maybe i'm bias as I have a good relationship with them, but I have yet to hear of any other complaints from other members.

Courtenay has been very good to the members of this site and are our sponsor. That goes a long way in my book.

But it was mentioned in the slating of my DIY S/C for well under £5K comments, that the S/C kit spins a UK alternator the wrong way.... inferring that an S/C kit fitted to a Us engine would run fine, and a UK one to run incorrectly.. ie implying the US one spins the other way to a UK one (regardless of 2.0 and 2.2 flavours).

the 2.0 sc alternator goes the other direction and uses a double sided belt

this is a factory fitted 2.0 sc engine - note the sc drive belt

courtenay only use a single sided belt so must retain the standard alternator - note the sc drivebelt

here is a pic showing the different directions, Green is common, Red is 2.0 sc, Blue is 2.2

I was originally going the sc route so figured out pretty much all that was required.

then 200+ na power came along :lol:
