Hi guys I need to get a quality cat for my car any suggestions as to a good / reasonably chep supplier?

I can recommend Hoffmann cats. Do you want 400 cpi or 200 cpi sport cat?

400 cpi means 400 cells per inch. This is the standard cat that comes fitted to your car. As a standard car goes then its fine. If you want more power from your car you should be looking to remove the precat which is infront of the main cat and then change the main cat to a 200 cpi. 200 cells per inch are far less restrictive than 400. A 200 cell will allow more exhausts gases out far more quickly, thus getting more bhp from your engine.

so today was the day I drove 200 mile to get the cat that should have been delivered yesterday 🙁 , however with time and patiance its all paid off :razz: . when I finally got home with no thurther a doo got the car in the air and the old cat off 🙂 shove the new-en on and hey preseto..... 8) run it for a while did some more miles and eventually the engine symbol went out on the dash 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 . I basicly spent the last week thinking this symbol was something electrical, how ever I did find a brioken wirer on the fuel evaportaion valve curcuit :roll: once repair this still didnt fix my problem. 🙁 but after the cat was replaced it occured to me the symbol actually refered to emision control. as you can imagine I am well chuffed have these issues sorted. cheers.. cheers.. cheers.. cheers..

Doesnt the puttin a 200cpsi cat on the car make the engine light stay on? Only a friend of mines had alot of trouble with his sri 150 after Decattin his. As im thinkin about a sport cat on my vectra 2.2 sri.

De-cat will cause problems. The 200 cell cat should be no problem.

I can explain a little more now as i'm on my PC. My earlier reply was on my mobile and I was in work.

De-cat systems are not road legal and will not pass an MOT emmissions test. Without a cat, your ECU will get confused because it will not be receiving the correct info back from the sensors and the fuelling will be all over the place.

By using a 200 cell cat, you are allowing your gases to flow more easily yet still keeping the engine management happy for emmissions and fuelling. Some of have encountered problems with EML coming on but its assumed that its to do with the gases passing the sensor at a high rate and thats nothing to worry about.

Basically, as long as you stick to 200 cell you'll be fine.

Can i just add guys ......with all that in mind the 200cpi cat are still twice the cost..... roughlly. do we think that the extra money spent on the sports cat is worth the gains in BHP ? I dont have one fitted and recently bought the standard as a replacment and i wander myself how much differance it will make.

There's the question? If you are looking at minimal costs for mods with a good increase then you'd be better off just removing the pre-cat and getting yourself a GOOD cat-back exhaust system. If you are going down the head, cams and inlet route then you'd be wise to go for the 200 cell sport cat. The sport cat will probably only gain you around 5bhp so its not the best bhp per £££.
