Z22se Vs X20XEV

Hi folks,

I picked up my Lovely 02 Veccie B Sri 150, 6 weeks ago and i love it. I've had 2 previous vauxhalls 2 cavalier SRi's, a 2.0 SEH and a 2.0 XEV. Both were nice cars, the XEV definately was faster.

Anyway here's my point The my XEV pulled like a train. quick throttle response, low down torque and CHARRRRGGGGGEEEE all the way to 6500rpm. showo..

Now i love the smoothness of the Z22se engine and (to be fair i nearly went for the 2.6 because of the driveability ,) but i've found the throttle response is slower than both my CAVs.

Veccie B, floor it, slight pause, it then pulls like a train BUT then..... FLAT SPOT..... then pulls again....runs out of puff?

Is this just my engine or is this a characteristic of the Z22se notsure.gif

The 2.2 does have a load of low down torque, then a flatspot between 2500 and 3500 rpm, then it picks its feet up and goes like stink, They do run out of puff a little right up at the top of the rev range, but its more a leveling off of power than a drop. The fast road cams sort that out and it will pull hard right to the rev limit. I raced a mate with a 2.0 astra when my 2.2 astra was stanard and mine was slightly quicker.

the x20xe was never restricted, but the z22se was :roll:

you need to remove the restrictions of the z22se, precat, panel filter, cat back exhaust

that increases the power up to @160 bhp, if you replace the inlet manifold with the unrestricted 2.4 version then up to @175 bhp is achievable

cams would take that up to @185 bhp and a new 4-1 exhaust manifold over 190 bhp 8)

add a ported head and over 200 bhp should be seen 😃
