4-2-1 exhaust manifold - group buy possibility - ended

Just gauging interest in a group buy for a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold dunno..

no commitment at this stage, just an idea of who would want one if the price was right notsure.gif

the design will most likely be a 4-2-1 so the manifolds will need to be welded to your cat section as they will NOT have the standard downpipe flange.

they will be a different design than the weaponR style 4-2-1, so should fit without major modifications 🙂

argh. I would have bitten your arm off, but a weapon-r with my name on it is currently somewhere in the atlantic 🙁

Have you posted on the vx220 forums? Maybe for the vx220 people you could weld a slightly oversize slotted pipe on so that people could just cut the cat pipe, slide it in, and put a D-clamp around it without having to weld. I imagine that would make you extremely popular 🙂

edit: hmm. only 2 VX220-ers. No idea about other cars - maybe a similar thing could be done that would work for all cars?

I'm aware many z22se owners wish to replace the restrictive cast manifold and that the current weaponR 4-2-1 version is quite hard to fit on a diy basis :roll:

The proposed 4-2-1 will curve downwards from the manifold flange, rather than the weaponR upwards curve, it will also come in two versions, vx220 and astra/vectra/zafira.

I don't expect a formal group buy until sometime in the new year, so nothing will happen very quick, also if there is not enough interest then it will not be viable.

As a very rough guide :?

Regal 4-1 = upto 5 bhp gain, £445
TMS 4-1 = upto 10 bhp gain, £995
weaponR = over 10 bhp gain, £250 ish including conversion parts

z22se version = between 5-10 bhp and cheaper then the Regal

I'm half way through a design for the VX at the minute and I've looked at the underside of the astra and there is no way you could make a common design for both. As it is fitting the secondaries in is very tight on the vx to get enough space for a flexi, a 2-1 junction and the cat before the std flange location

EDIT just re-read your post and there is no way you'll manage to get decent length runners using the std cat it's far too big.

I believe the downpipe must be welded to the cat, but a flange joint is available for a tenner from good motorist centres dunno..

The upper 4-2 section will fit all z22se's, the 2-1 section will differ for the vx220

I agree, but this manifold design will be a compromise :roll:

it's the only way to keep the price low and allow diy fitting 🙂

If designed right it doesn't need to be a compromise, however to get a design that fits will take more development work than your average exhaust manufacturer is prepared to put in.

I have to dissagree about the keeping the cat and being DIY, I don't know many VX owners with the skill to weld a manifold to a cat, I know I couldn't or where you thinking exchange?

the company concerned will put the effort in, the z22se moderator team have been in discussion with them 🙂

the vx220 is slightly different to the other models, so maybe they could include a sports cat and flange then adjust the price accordingly, it could still work out a cheapish system dunno..

i know the weapon r needs to get a new 2-1 section for a vx but does it need it for an astra coupe too? i mean except for the lexmaul manifold there isnt much of a choice for a 4-2-1
