clicking noise on acceleration...

Hey guys,

Already emailed Benny to ask about cam chain.

93K 2001 veccy original cam chain, and vx say never been to them from new - however since i owned it, its been to VX a few times but I've not had the oil thingy done to it...

so,

start my car, all ok, pull away, and a tappetty tap noise sounds like passenger side, and the more i accelerate, the faster and louder it is, but only in drive, not neutral...

any thoughts / tests i can do to check things out?

I'm not a mechanic and im fair from it lol..

Not too sure sorry mate but I know what you mean, my car does that, its every so slight, I can only just hear it, ive checked my chain out and all seems good.

the timing chain is on the drivers side and won't differ with speed

I'm actually wondering if its an exhaust blow, this is the second one ive had since feb, and the last was repaired under warranty, Kwik Fit said they thing there may be a loose engine bracket becuase the last time, the exhaust snapped off at the manfauld....

I'm gonna get it in to Kwik Fit, but i bet they wont do it under warranty this time, if it is an engine bracket... thats another £329 then...

ah ok, so not the timing chain, but i think it still needs doing, my engine is on 93K now, and VX say 100K change it, but you dont have too...

but i will, its either the exhaust or maybe even a gearbox fault

the exhausts snap because the rear gearbox mount goes soft :roll:

Does timing chain noise stay the same at all rpm? Car im talking about does it from about 1500rpm to 2500ish revving at standstill. Doesnt change noise with engine speed.

Ok, I took the car to Kwik Fit, and told them of the noise, so they looked and said the centre section has a hole, and it needed replacing, so fine, they fitted the part and its cool, however, the noise is now louder, and getting louder each day...

so, its not an exhaust fault noise.. any thoughts, is this my timing chain? its only under acceleration...

We have had big and little ends suggested to us! Little by two mechanics we know and big by a vaux dealer cryb..

it would be the big ends, it's a common 'after effect' of running with low oil in the z22se engine 🙁

if you don't get it sorted the conrod WILL go through the block :shock:

Yeah, thats why i took it to kwik fit lol, surely if it was flexi then the guys in kwik fit would have spotted that..

but then maybe not lol

Is it really common after running with low oil? I think it has been..

if you run the z22se with low oil it causes the big end bearings to melt :shock:

then the bearings block the oil way :shock:

then the con rod exits the engine via the block :cry:

Had a listen to wmguk's car today at a vvoc meet,noise seems to be the manifold blowing,either cracked or blowing from the gasket...
