Hi all, havent posted for a while as works been bonkers busy the last week or so. Due to go on a course on Monday so a few days ago I thought I would prep the car for its trip to Wolve`s. Checked oil/waters etc, changed wheels back to standard as the tyres on my new-uns are poo in the wet.

Went to start it.... Crunchy Grinding metal on metal sound and a couple of back-fires from the engine and hence.... it wouldn`t start 🙁

Called the nice man from the AA out, explained my concern about the chain etc, he took the plugs out and we flicked it over, movement was seen in all cylinder thingys, put it all back together tried to fire it over, no crunching sound, car just turned over then a back-fire blew the 4 clips off of the air box...... I pooed myself then remembered the £1000+ bill the garage gave me when the belt went on my Astra :cry:

Not 100% sure what damage has been done, gonna try and get it looked at while I`m on this crappy 3 week course (timing!!!)

Hopefully I shall return with news of the Vec back on the road, with a reasonable bill to pay :roll: in a few weeks time.

Think it`s my ported/polished throttle body that caused the major engine damage..... 😃

No joking on my thread please Neil, this is a serious Vectra / Engine issue. I`m quite upset about the thought of major engine damage and would like a little respect.

Quick up-date.........

8 inlet valves - bent 🙁
2 exhuast valves - bent 🙁
head off, sent away, should be back mid next week, ...head skim maybe cryb..
2 chain sets
gaskets
head bolts
oil & filter

labour £1300 (max - depending on valve guide damage & skim req`d) :shock:

Oh! and new water pump to be fitted to get rid of crappy whine (hopefully)

Should get it back next weekend when I finish my course...... and I can`t wait.

.....and .... the chain was still intack.... guide had shattered and melted a little, chain had jumped about 3 teeth. :roll:

Have you priced up an exchange head from Vauxhall ? you will be surprised at the cost it comes with all the valves fitted this will cut down the labour bill. Good excuse for getting the cams re-profiled as well. You cannot skim the z22se head well that what Vxl say.
