Engine running badly

My Z22SE is not running as it should.

It all of a sudden has loss of power and is definately not firing correctly, it must be a fuel or ignition problem.

It starts perfect and revs very well, you can just make out its not right, but when you set off you really notice it, you can feel it and hear it, like a cylinder is not firing correctly.

I have changed the plugs and have tried a new coil pack and it persists.

I am looking for possibilities,

Something wrong at the inlet manifold
An injector

I should also say, its been on a diaognostic and shown nothing and the manegement light has never come on either.

Any info will be very helpful.

could be an injector or the egr valve is sticking open dunno..

simply remove the egr valve and make sure it's closed 🙂

egr valve, can you please give me an idea where I might find that?

Also if it is an injector, will sending them away to clean them be OK, or if one is not working as it should, will I need to replace it with a new one. I know you cant answer 100%, but an idea?

I have just read your post on the egr cheater and also now know where its located.

My cooling fan was staying on a few months back even when just running the car for 5 mins, I was going to replace the coolant sensor but it stopped so I forgot about it, do you think this could be related to the EGR valve?

PS, why is the valve in question such a pain and can be done without, using the cheater?

I would try the egr valve first, quite a common problem :roll:

the injectors is a rare fault dunno..

the reason for the egr cheater is to save the cost of a new valve = £150 from dealer :shock:

also you can have the egr valve removed on later models, early models cannot have it switched off, so the egr cheater mimics the valve and fools the ecu into believing the valve is fitted and working 🙂

a blanking plate still has to be fitted with the egr cheater 🙂

Well I think I need to visit Tech 2 anyway to get my towbar activated, as I fitted one with a relay ad it does not work, I used the loom in the boot that has a connector for Vauxhall towbars.

So even if the valve could be faulty, it may not of shown a code on diagnostics from my local garage, non Vaux, it did read an airback fault I had though.

My car is a 52 plate Vectra C, so do I get it turned off as I may need to visit Tech 2 for my towbar or do I remove it and use your little gem. But in eaither case do I need to remove it and blank it off.

Would my car benefit from me cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner while Im on in that area.

I have owned this car for a year and not had to do a thing, apart from an oil change, so its new to me at the moment, and Im waiting on the Vectra Haynes to come out, Jan 08 they are quoting now. My previous engine was a Z20LET in an Astra, great fun.

you should be able to get the egr switched off 😃

then it's just a case of fitting the blanking plate 🙂

the egr doesn't always cause an eml :roll:

certainly worth cleaning the throttle body 🙂

I removed my EGR and I was unsure how to tell if it was stuck, it appeared to be closed and it would not open, in or out, as I was not 100% which way it opened, I believe it goes in. In the end I tried tapping the done with a hammer and it would not move whatsoever?

When I put it back on the car, the management light is now on all the time.

I have spoken to Vaux about switching off the EGR and they dont think it is possible on my car, 52 plate Vectra C, does anybody know different?

Anyway I have ordered the blanking plate and gasket, I think my best option is to buy a cheater from here, I know where the donation page is, so if you think this is best, let me know and I will make a donation.

My parts will be here Saturday, so it would be great if I can have the cheater for then.
