How To Remove Bump Strips

They just had a dimple effect. felt smooth, but you could still see a little texture. I sarted with P400 then gave them a quick going over with P800. I didn't want too sand them to much and was careful to sand sideways (palm side to side) as to not create ripples.
The primer filled the texture and the final result was smooth.

I planned to do the same to the side skirts (also very faded) but now I'm put off with all the sanding required.

Same here. I want to have my side skirts done by the Rolling Road day, but there are quite a few new bits needed as you have to replace all the plastic rivits.

I pulled off the skirts today.
Nearly finished sanding one (man, I hate sanding).
Hopefully paint them by next weekend.
Got to order the clips too.

How far back have you sanded these? Have you still left some of the stipple effect, or gone doe a totally smooth finish? I want to be doing mine pretty soon (or at least before the rolling road day) and wondered what finish would look best.

I will be sanding the skirts flat. I finished one last night, It's alot of work!
IMO flat looks better. Especially with a high gloss black, the textured finish would show up.
I got away with sanding less of the door strips (these were not totally smooth), but due to the larger, flatter area of the skirts, I will spend the extra time getting them smooth.
You need to be careful when sanding, to rub across the skirt, not along (which is easier), in order not to leave grooves of ripples from uneven sanding.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've only got 4 days off between now and the 1st March, so don't think I'll have time to be able to sand them flat, so will wait until I get a free weekend.

You should be able to do it in 4 days, if you've got everything and you're on a mission!
I spent half a day yesterday, that was removing them (15min) and sanding (3hrs!). I hope to have the sanding done tonight and paint them one night this week or on the weekend.
Just called to get a price on the clips to refit the skirts; $80AUD owch!

Bloody hell! Are you able to get them in Auz, or do you have to have them sent over from the UK?

Well we did my bump strips today.

With two of us it took 1 1/4 hrs sanding. and then about 3hrs prep work.

I must admit they look great.

Once the laquer has totally hardened i will go over with 3000 W&D and then buff.

I painted mine last night. Hopefully have them on afterwork today.
Wow, you're doing well sanding them in 1.5hrs! It took me around 4hrs, although the first one I did, I used sandpaper that was too fine.
I wasn't entirely happy with mine, when looking down them, they look smooth, but have a wavy look. WIll probably look beter when on the car. I'll get some pics tonight.

There was 2 of us using 80 grit both using a Mouse sander

We did start sanding by hand, but were having none of it.

Ahhh, that explains it.
Yea by hand sucks, it took me a six pack to get the job done 😃
I used 400 for the first one, and 240 for the second (took half as long), finishing both with 800.
Just fitted them back on.

They stand out a little being so clean and glossy, and the car being so filthy.
