Had the Vectra serviced yesterday at Vauxtech and was chatting to the mechanic about the 2.2. He said they have had alot of 2.2's in recently with timing chain problems and did not mention the faulty oil jet notsure.gif
He said alot of the problems he is seeing are where the oil levels are getting too low and the tensioner becomes starved of oil. This is causing wear on the tensioner, which allows the chain to become slack and they are either jumping teeth or snapping
He is also seeing alot of owners selling up instead of facing possible problems as the cost of repair can be as much as replacing the whole car.
That put a downer on my day as after struggling to read the correct oil level, I had a Check Oil Level come up whilst driving on the motor way.
I've had the recall for the timing chain done and was told it should be ok as the chain has been changed recently. But it won't stop me worrying every time I give it some stick, especially with that annoying tick you get on start up.
I was also told the best way to check your oil is to turn the dipstick around and read the level from the back.
Anyway moral of the story guys.....
Keep a close eye on your oil level, cos it seems even with the oil jet mod your engine is still at risk, and these engines do like burning oil 🙁
