Civic Type R (Test Driven)

I have always wanted of one of these from first day that they came. I test drove one a few years ago and thought it was rapid.

I never bought one and stuck with the vauxhall brand. But in the back of my mind still fancied buying one.

Now i got a call from one of my mates, he had enough of his S2000 drool.gif and had swapped it for a 05 plate type R.

I took it for a blast and only really used first and second gear to the limit but i was slightly dissapointed. I felt my Astra nearly had the same amount of pull :shock: I know on paper it is much faster and i am sure if we had a blast against each other he would punish the astra.

Even though it is a very nice car, my want for one has slightly dropped off now.

You've probably got used to the power delivery of the Astra Si, as yours is pretty quick. Is the new Type R any better than the one you test drove, as I think the new ones looks fantastic?

I think you are right Matt, when i test drove on years ago i had a 1.2 Corsa. according to parkers

2.0i VTEC 3d (AC) 197bhp 146 Top Speed 6.4 0-60 31 Mpg (old model)

2.0 i-VTEC 3d 1998 / 4 198bhp 146 Top Speed 6.4 0-60 31 Mpg (07 onwards)

On paper they look the same, not sure if they drive different my mate said the v-tec range has been lowered on the new ones, But i agree matt i do love the new ones, just a bit pricey.
