Your Opinion On Vista

Well, it looks like a few of us are now using Vista on here, and have been for a couple of weeks/months.

So, how are you finding it? Anything not working which you really need to work? Any nice little suprises you've come across?

I've steered clear of it, the last pc I purchased was supplied with xp instead of vista on my instructions :?

my mate had so many problems with vista he went and purchased xp and wiped vista off the hard drive :shock:

not a fan am I :lol:

i have been using for a few weeks now and i must say i'm loving using it. wasn't a big fan of it when i first tried it as a beta release but now the more i use it the more i like it.

so far all he software i use is working fine on vista so i'm happy to keep using it for the time being.

Stick with me XP64 Pro even thats a load of junk but its genuine 😃

I think it's the biggest pile of poo ever! lol.

no really though It's ok i like the front end, but every bit of software i have installed has had to have one patch or another update run before i could get it to work. As for the software that wont run once installed then trying to remove it is a right nightmare.

I also don't like how you have to configure things on win2k domain either. I will be sticking with XP for a bit longer.

My mates got it and when i use his laptop i just cant get on with it...

I'm beginning to like it now. Before, I was really against it, but I think that was also because it wouldn't let me have it dual boot with Linux. I've since got that working, and been running it for just over a month.
So far, all the software I need works fine, drivers haven't been a problem, it's installed my sound card, video card, Firewire etc. Seems to run at a reasonable speed using the Aero interface.
And I still have the advantage of running linux.

The only place i could see where it may score is in the multimedia inc tv, providing it works.
Kept crashing big time last year.

I've just switched off the Aero interface, and it's running a hell of a lot faster now. I've got a problem at the minute where I can't open the Control Panel, as Windows Explorer keeps crashing.

Matt problems and Vista go hand in hand LOL. Did it work before Aero interface was switched off?

No, thats why I switched it off. It worked last week, but just tried it now, and it opens the windows explorer box, and then crashed and restarts, but never actually opens.

Have made any changes at all to cause it to crash (installed anything)? or did it just start crashing?

Just started Crashing, I've not installed anything in a couple of weeks. Everything else opens up, apart from the Control Panel. Is there any other way to get to the Control Panel apart from the Start Menu shortcut?

I've just run windows update, and installed ALL the updates available, and Control Panel is now working fine notsure.gif

At least it is working now.

It's bloody strange, one minute it was working, and the next it wasn't. Like you said, at least it's working again now.

I'm thinking the computer industry have a vested interest in promoting operating systems that are over complex and prone to faults. :roll:

Just waiting for a bullet proof system that works - maybe another 10 years? notsure.gif

In the meantime struggling on with XP which worked after a fashion for 4 years until IE7 was loaded- then problems bigtime!! :evil:

The driver situation is getting better , the defrag function really sucks , Very pretty but i found xp much much easier to use . though vista has the better recovery suite and windows media centre is really cool ...

I've found that as well. I've only got about 6gig of stuff on my new laptop, and it takes bloody ages to defrag, and the fact that it doesn't show how much it's fragmented before, or give any indication as to how long it will take is a bit crap
