Astra 2.2 SRi 2003

Hi guys , and gals, I just registered here today after gettin a lovely black 2003 Astra SRi 2.2 😃 and as im keen on gettin some new ice first off ( head unit already chosen ) can anyone tell me the size of the front and the rear speakers please , includin the tweeter size in the front doors if posible 😃 many thanks

Dont know what the Astras sound like but the Veccy are pretty good and well balanced. Need to spend over £100 to better the fronts alone. Its the cable that really lets them down and a pain to replace.

I would slap the new unit in and see what it sounds like. Maybe add some sound deadening.

Front speakers - 17CM woofer + 1CM Tweeter with in built crossover

Rear speakers - 13CM

Now, the standard speakers are pretty good, and as Hareng said, you'll need to spend over £100 to upgrade them. Again, as Hareng said, the head unit also plays a big part in the quality of the sound, and again, the standard head unit isn't actually half bad. I've got a Sony one, and it sounds worse than the standard one. It totally lacks any depth to the music.

6.5" Speakers in front and 5.25" in rear. Component speakers are available as also are Cutstom Fit Speakers to replace your existing speakers. TBH, as above, I would fit the headunit first and see what you get. I had the standard headunit in my Vectra for ages then I decided to put my Alpine in. I couldn't believe what I had been missing. The Vectra speakers are fantastic with a decent headunit.

9887 yes but would have to pay over the odds as no one is selling them at the right price.
In this respect, the 9855 up to £175, bought one brand new £80 at the time going for £230 on ebay but seller opted out when i offered to send the lads round to collect. Pretty much the same apart from looks, except:-

Whoa .. you really think so? I wouldn't be without time correction now, the difference it makes to sound quality is amazing. Set it up properly, get used to it, and you'll develop a new appreciation for quality sound..

Dave, theoretically it should be better and for one seating position only. Maybe the Alpines are not fine enough to alter the delay, what i got was almost like hearing an echo on lowest setting, as the stereo soundstage is not portrayed in a car, except in Dolby recordings.
Would not rule it out, some expensive equipment may or may not be necessary setting it up, something i havent got.
Might have a play again later with different recordings.

Time Correction

So whats the verdict on the time correction then ? ive never tried it before in car audio only at home in a dvd player

Had a little play yesterday, firstly i only use the rears for a bit of sound fill.
May be music dependant ie the recordings, will have to try something else.
As is i have set front right 0.5ms, rear right 0.2ms.
In a funny round about way its more like adjusting the left right balance, but only any good for one specific seating position.
On the front right ok from 0 to 0.7ms delay, any more it sounded awfull. Good choice for me is between 0.4 and 0.6ms top whack.

We dont have this for home hifi, no balance, tone etc, we sit right in the middle to get the best soundstage and stereo imagery.
Even with the best Dynaudio, some branded as KEFS and Genesis, only offer glimmers of soundstage in a car.

More testing required but worth while in a car for one person.

Definately agree with the above. If you are in the car on your own then this is great.

You can basically fit what you like in the rear door cards on a 3 door. I have know ppl fit subs in there. I have 20cm pioneers in there and they sound superb with just a component set up in the front. When you pop the tweeter out of the panel where the wing mirror is you will find you can slot an aftermarket one in without cutting anything about. Any more help you need give me a shout.
