Two standard throttle bodies

Hi,

I've got two standard Z22SE throttle-bodies. Why would I want to buy new ones - wouldn't these two give me the performance I crave? Admittedly, I'd have to make up a manafold to suite...

remove the motor from the second tb and link them like itb's 🙂

It would work with a suitable inlet and ecu map dunno..

The inlet could be as short as 25mm, quite easy to make and probably worth it for this reason alone.
Were those twin 45/48's DHLA about 50mm long!

Should knock spots off the Dbilas.

Aaagh nothing mad about that.

The only problem i could foresee is the air inlet.
If feed is from no1 cyl side, this will take as much air as it wants and subsequently diminishes towards no4 cyl.
May have to find a way of distributing or centralising the air feed in to some sort of chamber or Y piece equal length, you get the idea. Assuming all cyl require same amount and the room needed.

Cant get my head round the long runner length as in the 2.4 inlet, surely it will be instantly responsive with short tapered runners.

Hum not exactly, it will never be instant response with an electric TB (and especially with stock ECU, even if the TB response smoothing is just a parameter often changed in maps reflash)

If more space is required, then I always thought that upwards was the way to go.

A mid-term plan of mine is to take a boot-lid and cut it in half - retaining the boot-lid bit. making two aluminium side pieces hinged at the fibre panel on top of the rear window. I'd then cover the engine area with slats much as in the way a lot of people have done. Ah, but I was forgetting - this isn't the VX220 forum - some of you people have different cars! A removable rear glass would also be fun.

In the VX you could make a twin air intake system with a cone type filter with one in each side pod. Then feed cylinders 1-2 and 3-4 with a TB each, the only problem I can see is with getting a stable MAP signal it would be better to link 1-4 and 2-3 as the valve events would be 180 degree apart.
You would also possibly get some scavanging effect for the second valve event with the 1-2 and 3-4 configuration but whether that's a good thing I don't know.

Cant wait to give this a try for what it may cost but will have to clear my backlog first, all being well two weeks. Got plenty of 100x50mm aluminium, sure i could knock up a manifold, the hard bit is the seal and lack of pattern to head though could improvise.
