Ian Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play. :?
DBcoup right click on the avi file and go to 'Open with', then select vlc player. There will be a little square box that you can tick, so that the type of file is always opened with vlc, that saves you doing all this everytime you want to view it.
