Has anyone got a sports catt & not had any problems?

As the title says has anyone on site got a sports catt and not had any issue with their EML light just I e-mailed TV and asked them about this and their reply is posted in this months issue they say that raising the lambda sensor would make no difference as it would still be doing the same job,they can't see any reason why fitting a sports catt could have such an adverse effect on your car,most likely the exhaust is not to blame :? their advice is to get it on a tech 2 reader and the chances are that it could be a faulty wire or sensor something not connected and the Astra might just be overdue a service and driving hard with the sports catt fitted has allowed the engine to work hard enough to pinpoint a minor problem. dunno.. I can't understand this as 1.it's allready been on a the diagnostics and 2.Why has as good as everyone I have spoke to about this had the exact same problem from Vauxhalls to Hondas. I think I'll be getting a tech 2 reading done again and taking the mag down to the Company that fitted the catt etc...

I've never had an issue with my magnaflow sports cat, but that could be a 300 cell :roll:

normally the fault is because the gases are too fast for the lambda to read, the spacer moves the sensor to the side of the exhaust pipe where the gases are slower.

I've had a problem with mine giving a EML. Not very often though. Its the sensor behind the main cat showing that the car is running too lean.

That's what both my mechanic and the company said also yourself and John also Mark from Courtenay told me it was a common problem so I don't understand why TV have brushed it off?

TV seem to be good with advice if you want to chav up a Corsa, but anything more technical and they`re stumped.

normally after replacing the downpipe the lambda sensors fail, probably due to them spraying the sensor with wd40 before trying to loosen it, this destroys the sensor :shock:

I killed one of mine by doing exactly that 🙁

i got given a link a while back for a company selling o2 simulators in the states, i bought one and fitted and hey presto no more problems. think it was vocky who gave me it.

Been thinking about these O2 for some time and will probably need one shortly.
Any issues regarding MOT? Or is it the Lambda that affects the fueling etc?

you can also get the heater resistor too, so you can do away with the post cat sensor totally, this is what ill be doing

I've got a 200cell on my car and have not had any problems with the EML. Long term emission tests by the ECU are also all ok.

When removing the lambda sensors I was very carefull. Didn't use wd40, but I did spray it with "rust shock". And even more important, use a special type of grease on the threads when placing it back. If coppergrease or something similar is used it is end of life for the lambda sensor..

Oh, and my lambda sensors weren't exactly new either, was over 70.000km on them when I moved them to the new exhaust.

iirc but not sure if it was confirmed, the 12v feed from the heater is cut once the sensor is warmed up ?

also does the earth on the socket still need to be connected ? dunno..

I've been using mine wired like this for 5/6k and not had any problems. Luna you might be right about the socket earth not needing connected. I didn't connect it on mine but IIRC its the recommend way.

theres a 12v ignition feed not far from that location, but if youve had no troubles i'll do it this way - even if my loom is a bit odd :roll:

I had to earth mine directly to the battery. I wasn't getting a good contact.

I need to get one of those but can you get them over here instead of having to order from the U.S.? Am I not right in thinking you got yours from Courtenay John mate? If so I think I'll pick one up from them also is it a replacement for the lambda sensor or of it has gone will I need to just buy a new one when it was on the diagnostics no fault showed ie the lambda or egr or anything away as you said in your post John my mechanic and the company all said that it's because the gasses are passing the lambda sensor too fast? I need to get it back on the diagnostics soon as! as having the EML light on so long I don't know if any faults have came up now as even when I reset the EML light after 50-100 mile of taking it easy the second I put the foot down the EML light comes back on the most I've had it reset for and not took it easy is 150 miles since the 300 miles I took it easy just after having it fitted. But I've looked on a lot of different owners clubs from Subaru,Skyline owners clubs to Audi owners clubs they all have posts on about the same issue and on a lot of the sites the fix for them especially U.S owners is using the spark plug non foulers and taking the lambda sensor away from the fast gasses but (1) trying to get a reliable company that will send over 1 pack as they're only around 7-8$s and (2) would this not just be masking the issue from what I can make of what most people have said the only fix I am going to get is to get one of these lambda sims??? what's the usual price and John it's called a fudge sensor that you have isn't it mate I can't remember exactly! and what kind of price are they?
