Fitting rear pads?

Do I have to buy a kit to wind the calipers back or will I get away using long nose pliers? My rear brakes are very low, they need changed today as they are making noise, I just hope the discs are ok what.. . Well off to Vauxhall to buy some pads.............

Lol, well I started to change the rear brakes on my Sri 2.2 and I can't get the piston to go back, I have it turning but it looks like it needs presure to help out. I also don't know what way to turn it. I need help asap as I am due to go to work in an hour. I don't have a piston tool either. Thanks for any info. Mark

Mark get some long nosed pliers and put them in the groove on the piston and wind them in whilst pushing, theyve gotta go clockwise mate. Hope that helps??

And you really hav gotta push the piston as you turn, and you`ll prob need a rest every now and then cos your arm will ache, so expect that 🙂

Also as ive said before take the cap of the brake fluid reservior too, just incase,cos the level will rise when pushing the pistons back in. 🙂

Thats it job all done 😃 20.gif . I just need to know why my handbrake feels like it higher up than before, not as tight. I also wonder why the pads are not level when the worn ones came out, I had more pad left on the backs of the discs than the out side of the disc. Strange. 🙂 Cheers

PS:

How do you know when to stop taking the piston back? Do you just keep going til the calipers fits over the disc again, as thats what I did, I just turned it til they fitted over the disc and fitted it all up. Do the pistons pop back out to adjust to the new pads? Cheers

Your handbrake will feel slightly higher mate,that will adjust its self up over time 🙂

With the pistons, just wind them in until the pads fit etc and you can bolt the caliper back on.Once done always press your brake a few times whilst the wheel is off to watch the pistons come out and settle into there position, or if you didnt do that make sure you press your brake pedal with the engine running quite a few times before you go out for the first time with new pads in 🙂 (or u might find stopping rather delayed :wink: )
Im assuming you fitted the new anti rattle clips and bolts that come in the kit? 🙂

Thanks for that info 😃 , they work very well my new brake pads. I got to work tonight and they where smoking :shock: :lol: . I was going just a little too fast for me having new pads in, I was late for work :oops:
