Engine hunting ..

Got a call from jamee today to say his eml was on,so told him to pop up me house 2nite and i'd plug it in for him..

When he arrived he said that the engine had been hunting up and down quite alot(worse than mine does vocky)

so plugged it in and it showed up as idle speed fluctuating more than 60rpm in either direction(jamme has the code)

After a bit of umming and arring i turned the aircon onand it settled out,cleared the code and it didnt come back on,turned the aircon off and withn seconds it was hunting again and the code came back...

Also the battery is only chatging at between 13.2 and 13.8 volts,with everything turned on(heaters lights etc its at 13.2)
Any ideas Neil??

Sounds familiar? I seem to remember Neil saying something about the air-con running on a seperate map? Having to run the 30 miles steady without aircon and then steady for 30 miles with aircon switched on??

Ures did it aswell didnt it john....its worse than mine ,cant remeber how bad ures was tho....

I would reset the ecu and see if it returns dunno..

are all the connections and pipes still tight notsure.gif

might be worth doing 20 miles without aircon, then 20 miles with aircon to see if it settles.

I had it once on my vec when I never used the aircon for a few months.

the tb and inlet were both off my vx220 and I had no problems :?

I didnt see the butterlfy moving either but as jammes eys are alot younger than mine he said he seen it move...lol

as the aircon map is smooth, so try an ecu reset first dunno..

Cheers guys, the code is P0507, the lowest was 741 upto 971, the battery and the revs levelled out when the aircon was switched on, i'll try reseting the ecu again, do i need to drive for 30 miles again at under 3k???
Just dont understand why its doing it, the ported TB's shouldnt have that much effect on it surely...
Gonna cost me alot of money with air con on 24/7 haha I dont want to go back to standard TB's!!!

Has this fault been caused by swapping the TB for one of Vocky's ported ones? When we did Sjdickso's, it threw up some EML faults, not sure what the codes are, but his was idleing funny to start with. After about 5 minutes, it settled back down, and AFAIK, there has been no further problems.

the fact the aircon settled the tickover indicates the standard map needs resetting dunno..

the z22se has two internal maps, one for normal running and one for the aircon :?

I think you will be better running around town to settle the reset ecu rather than one long steady run, this might be the cause dunno..

you need to do this with the aircon off and again with the aircon on :roll:

Unplugged battery for an hr earlier, then drove around town for 20miles, switching the aircon on at 15miles, and when i idle at home, the light comes back on with the revving, really starting to p!ss me off now, i dont want to go back to normal TBs ggrrrrrrr

just had a thought.....

try disconnecting the fuel pressure vacuum pipe, you still have a standard air filter, so you may have too much fuel pressure at tickover dunno..

just remove the pipe at the fpr and see if the tickover improves dunno..

then it might be worth trying Daz's spare tb dunno..

if that cures it then I will port your original tb and post it back 🙂

Mine still does it occasionally too neil as you heard on saturday,but its nowhere as bad as jamee's..

I can't understand why yours does what it does and I believe Johnny's had a similar tickover even with a standard tb notsure.gif
