My Pc can't find my drive

Well it's my burning program Roxio. It can't find my drive so I can burn an image dunno.. . I put a blank disc in and my pc said it has no disc in the drive notsure.gif

Here is why it's not working..

save yourself a lot of messing and do a clean install, i dont care what anyone says, problems with registry settings are nearly always fatal unless you know 100% what your doing

I can't even do that as my cd drive is dead. Thats all I have for booting back up again

Agree with mr DB, if in doubt format the drive/s.
Make and save anything you want to keep inc registration codes for programmes, favourites, emails, piccies, etc I use an external USB drive but used to do it on rewritable cd.

The cd/dvd will be detected upon a clean install. May need to swap the bios setting over whilst installing windows. Probably hard drive is first boot, change to cd then hdd as 2nd boot device, unless you need a floppy as first boot.

While your at it you could clean the inside, a source for a number of problems.

Just coz your drive cannot be used in windows doesnt mean the drive is dead, it only means that the operating system cannot run it, when you boot up check the bios post screen or press Del or F1 or whatever it is, and look to see if your drive is picked up in the bios. If its there in the list with your HD and floppy, you just set it to boot from the cd drive and insert your vista disc.

Sorted now. I had to go on Dells forum and I got help from them. I just needed to remove some filters from my pc dunno.. :razz:

Lol, I had to remove upper and lower filters. I still can't burn anything using Roxio I have just installed. I need Nero on my pc soooooo much. The drive is working fine now, I just don't have a burning program anymore. This is what I had to do to get my drive working again..

Mark, I ended up needed to do a fresh install of Vista to get rid of Nero, it's a right pain in the arse to resolve. Was quicker and easier to just start again.

Is it worth putting Nero in Matt. It's just most the stuff I download are files that some of the other burners dont know like avi and image stuff (movie files). Cheers

I've always used Nero.....infact I've never used a different burning programme in the past 5 years.

Same here, I miss it. I don't know what Roxio is like that came with this pc I have..
