Replacement Exhaust front pipe

My front pipe has a hairline in it and I've been told it masy need repalicng at some point. only prob is that the front pipe includes the cat which makes it expensive. Any ideas how much? Someone told me you can cut off the cat and weld a connection on but I though heat kills the cats?

are you sure the front pipe has the CAT connected as one, i thought the CAT was a stand alone item?

might be worth getting it welded up dunno..

otherwise it's a new 'downpipe / cat' assembly 🙁

I have just bought a Hoffmann Stainless Steel downpipe that includes a 200 cell sport cat and the pre-cat. It cost £388 delivered. I beleive that the standard item from Vauxhall with a 400 cell cat is over £400 +VAT.

As for heat killing cats, that would be called 'Superheat'. If unburnt fuel entered the cat and then ignited, that would cause 'Superheating' of the cat. The main cat doesn't even become effective until it heats up to around 700`C.

Cutting out the cat and welding in a connection will also be an MOT failure on the emmissions.

Just replaced my front pipe with cat cost me £90.00 from EK Brakes motor factor, I also removed pre cat all seems OK upto now

i also just replaced mine front pipe was 85 supply or 125 fitted, it was made by bm catalysts, i priced a bosal one up it was 145 supply.
