tinting

i want my coupe tinted, i want all the windows doing apart from the front i was thinking along the lines of light smoke on the front and main back windows and for the two back ones medium smoke.

what you guys think?

will this be legal becuase a friend of mine had light smoke all the way round part from the front and he got 3 points notsure.gif i thought light would be ok for the front.

where do i stand? dunno..

Any tinting on the front passenger/driver window is illegal. 30% is the darkest tint you can go to. For example, if your windows come from the factory as standard with some sort of tint within the glass and then you put a tint on the window yourself, that would be illegal.

I've got light smoke on both fronts and midnight smoke all around the back. It really does depend on your local Police force.

bit off topic but i recently had mine tinted all round, but now the 2 plastic strips on top of the door card wont stay down, where the door lock is on the edge thet both just keep coming away from the card. i have tryed to keep pushing themdown, and even glueing them but nothing works. has anyone else experienced this? notsure.gif

Mine are exactly the same. I think they remove them when they tint, and for some reason they don't go back in properly. Mine's been like it for 15 months now since I had the front windows done.

Our astra has just limo on back nothing on front, looks good

My micra has light smoke on front and limo at back and look amazing 😃

Our shitbox before had all round tints and we were pulled for that 🙁

The most annoying thing is i just cant see what is stopping them from staying in place! :evil:

Now im reading all this about being pulled, what i want to know, is it also an MOT faliure? And if so are mine ok? the firm who did mine said it was ok but now im worried i may have to take the fronts off notsure.gif

ffs you windows look really sweet love to have them on my coupe but if the police pull you its 3 points per window i think not sure dunno..

As far as I know, it's not something they test on. Daz might be able to answer a bit more

ive been tinting for 6years on and off non professionally Ive done 100's of cars and only had one with a problem with the front windows (and he was in Amsterdam at the time)
the law state's no tint in the front windows at all the back can be limo black, most car windows have a pre tint of 70% light thru(greenish). tints are as follows 0-5%=limo 15-25%= dark 30-50%=light
now i have fitted 50% light smoke in all the cars i have done its a nice light tint suttle and my car went thru the mot at vx in feb no trouble and vx are very strict...

Have had my tints on for 4 years and its passed the MOT every time. Main Dealer MOT everytime.

hmm seem to remember him saying it was 30, so must be light tint, but to some ive seen they seem a bit dark, maybe coz the windows were factory tinted a little

Fronts need to let in 75% light from wot i can remember,but its not part of the mot.....YET

Personally I'd just get the back ones done. The Police can (and will) pull you if you have the front ones tinted and they will give you so many days to remove it. You have to go to the Police station to prove you've removed it too. Lots of people round our way had there tints ripped off there front windows a few years ago when the law changed. Not worth the hassle imo, just get the back ones done in a light smoke 🙂

Mate it's law now you do deff get 3 points for front tints 30% is the highest tint you can get like on my windows I think as standard they came with a 30% tint I got pulled by the traffics ages ago in my Hatchback the front were mid tint and the rear were limo tint when I got the pull it was a week before the law came in the fronts were around 37%-39% and I got a VOSA sheet I had to take them off within 7 days and take the car to a police VOSA Station and get them checked it was murder a week later my mate had 9 points and got done with his tints and lost his licence... Mate I wouldn't touch your front windows if I were you it looks lovely but best case scenario as said your local police that pulls you is ok and lets you take them off their and then I seen them doing this at the last cruise I was at porr guy was standing with a stanley blade scraping his tints off and the longer they've been on the harder the glue is to get off a bit of a pointless law I think as it's not illigal to where sunglasses and they say that's why it's illegall it obscures vision don't think it affects your MOT as Daz said don't think it'll be long before it does though.
