If its undercoat and gloss you put on? Id let it harden/dry fully then the best way to get it off is a heat gun and a nice sharp 'shave-hook'.
Id match all the wood in your place the same, so if your skirtings are white id go white everything.
I've used 'satinwood' before, its self undercoating and comes up really white and stays white, you can get it solvent or waterbased, i like the waterbased one. (easy to clean brushes/correct mistakes.) It gives a nice satin finish, which looks better than shiny gloss, imho.
Satinwood is very hard wearing but it can mark quite easily so if you got kids its a nono.
You could punch in all the nails and screws, use an appropriate coloured woodfiller, sand flat and smooth and stain to your preference..
Use a sharpe flat 'stanley' scraper to remove and tidy up any paint accidently left on the glass..
