I started my motor up yesterday to go to work and as I got near the end of the street I thought I heard the car rattle a bit, so I stopped and turned it off to re start it, to alow the oil to get blasted through the engine again as this works when you get a quick rattle in the morning from the lifters, then on re start it's good again. When doing the re start it made a BANG :shock: , it sounded like a back fire but from under the bonnet :? . This has happened once before to me :roll: . Any ideas what it is and will it cause any damage? Cheers

Did you restart it straight away, the noise prob came from ur exhaust, unburnt fuel etc. Nowt to worry about as long as it doesnt do it all the time lol.

If i was you check the exhaust mainfold for cracks & leaks .....

I only had this when I turned the car off and started it up again too quick I think what.. . I have had no problem since, I just wait a few seconds if I turn the car off if I need to re start it 😛

As 2.2SRi says, that will be unburn't fuel detonating. Nothing to worry about unless you were switching the car on and off all the time. I think it warns you about this under the catalyitic converter section of your Astra Owners Handbook.

I had this happen all the time on my old 106, as I took the cat off, and had it straight though from the manifold to the back box, and then a Peco BB4. Used to get 2 foot flames when fliping the ignition on and off when reving it.
