oil - Comma Xt2000 semi synth 15w-40

hi, for the first time, i am about to carry out a few simple DIY. Oil, Oil filter, air filter, plugs.

The local autoparts dealer, recommended Comma XT2000 semi synth 15W-40 oil and champion plugs.

I have taken his word and bought them? ofcourse, this oil cannot be compared to the EDGE or Magnetic. but is it a good oil?

I have done 89K and not into sporty products...just like to ensure that my car runs smooth...

I do not want to spend much, just want a good working oil.....any advise on this welcome...thanks!!!

The majority of us use and advise genuine Vauxhall spark plugs. They are triple electrode and really do work very well in the z22se engine. As for oil, using genuine Vauxhall oil is another recommened practice. I won't use anything else other than genuine Vauxhall oil.

The 15W dont come down low enough for winter use, so slap it in to flush/clean the engine and replace again end of August or sooner.
40W better for summer, it offers more protection.
Should be going for 5W/30W region, but i will go back to fully synth 0W/40W Edge.

Magnetic is not really good enough, though have used it.

The Comma is crap stuff, the cheapest and nastiest. The shop should be ashamed but if thats all they got, its a sale and the morals of an alley cat.
Your engines done a few mile and needs looking after just as much as a new one, the Comma stuff is pretty abrasive and breaks down easilly having used it in the past on other cars.

Most will recommend what VX say, there are alternatives some are better.

only fit the genuine vauxhall triple electrode plugs, only £4 each 🙂

you should be using 5w40 oil semi or fully synthetic 🙂

taking the oil and plugs back!!! will get plugs of the vaux dealership and oil, Castrol Edge 0W-30 .

You think, the air and oil filters would be ok? thanks for all the advise....

I would change the filters if you're not sure when they were last done. I'm not sure what the EDGE oil is like. Its worth looking at Vauxhall oil if you're going to the dealers.

i am due in for my annual full service and MOt in december, do dont want to spend much on oil. so was and still confused now. I might settle for the Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE 10W-40.. for now and get a better oil and on next service in December...

oils not something to be skimped on, unless youre driving a 500 quid shed

I use geniune Vauxhall oil and Vauxhall triple electrode plugs. Change the oil every 6 months and plugs every 12 months. Really good stuff and the car runs sweet.

I think this applies to most, if not all of the Vauxhall engine range. Their oil and plugs are the best suited to the engine.

Not advocating anything but there is a school of thought that punters abide by what any manufacturing entity recommends, with good reason.
In this instance there are better oils at same price or even cheaper. Amsoil is one manufacturer of oils who supply to VX direct at a price and spec.
Castrol Edge is almost chalk and cheese compared to the fully synth VX stuff offering smoother running hot and most certainly at cold where the protection is most needed. Also engine runs slightly cooler about 2 degrees.
The old Castrol RS was superb now old hat and replaced by the Edge. Mobil 1 is also superb and probably many others as well.
I usually sift through the sales patter/promotion bull.gif and stick with highly respected brands, not your local shops brand, it will work out dearer in the long run.
Magnetec runs about the same if not better than the semi synth VX.

Quite understand not ridiculing but some people are not mechanically minded aka mrs and son :roll:
Is it me or are these Haynes manuals getting worse as time goes on?
The piccies of the Veccies are worse than my dirty un. Dont cover a lot of things.
