Locking wheel nut socket.........

.........Ive only gone and miss-placed it :( searched the car, tool kit, trolley jack case, in the car you name it. Whats thye score nowadays getting the suckers out? are there specialist tools, do they have to be drilled out and more importantly is it gonna cost.

Not too sure how it works, but i know halfrods sell a locking wheel nut remover tool for £10 made by laser. Not sure but i think it screws and bites onto the lock nut anti-clockwise which when tight un-screws the nut. It will ruin the lock nut tho !! I think any normal service style garage can do it too as people must go fro tyres and not even know what a lock nut is sometimes !!!!!!!!

kwik fit will remove them for a fee, might be worth trying the dealers for a new key dunno..

Yes, I do find that as well. I've had an instance on my old car where I actually snapped the locking bolt in half...and they were the McGuard ones.

Well this is my second set, as the first I found starting to round and I was having to be very careful when removing one of them. That was after only taking them out 2 or 3 times.

Cant you hammer a certain size socket onto them and they come loose? Or thats what i was informed anyways. lol

Mine are 3 pin (holes as you look face on to them) the outer spins.
Marks mention of the gripping tool sounds like my best bet.

drill the holes bigger and any of that type of lock key will fit :shock:

if its the round ones with three holes in they are the same as my old veccy i got them out by hammering on a smaller size socket , then as i was turning the socket wrench i was hitting it on to keep it tight . if you know what i mean.

be careful when hammering the socket on that you dont hit your wheels,you can make a bit of a mess.

If all else fails and they have to be drilled. Drill the head out not the actual bolt ie only go in to the tapered depth by upping the drill size diameter, sonner or later it will break away. Keep the revs down it will generate too much heat.

Horrible things those hole type, had them on my last car. Noticed a few times whereby i have tightened these bolts up, onl to find a lot more leverage is necessary to undo, its the chemical reaction of steel to alloy. Copper grease may help in future.

woohoo.gif there off!!!! after trying a few places and getting quotes from £20 -£50 I tried a mobile tyre fitter I have used in the past. 19mm socket banged over the shroud and off it came, that was Saturday morning, had no way of removing the very tight socket off the nut until this morning at work, whacked it on the second of four nuts, sodding thing span no matter what I did. 🙁
Phone the local garage to work, they had a similar remover that seems to work on all types like mine they`ve tried...... he managed to remove the socket with a bit of brute force then the remaining 3 locking nuts.

............ all for a £1. 😃
