Belt-driven water pump

Hi,

I posed the question on the VX forum but had no comments back.

Is it such a crap idea to remove the blancer drive-chain, balance-shafts AND the water pump?

Surely we can side-mount a belt-driven pump on the outside of the engine and belt-drive it? People are saying that the electric-driven pump doesn't last long?

Is this a crap idea?

my plan was to fit two electric pumps :shock:

one pushing the water towards the rad (vx220) and the other around the engine dunno..

I chickened out and kept the mechanical pump :lol:

I have fitted an oil pressure gauge and can confirm the oil pressure is fine with no balancer shafts cheers..

hot tickover = 60 psi
hits 100 psi at higher revs 🙂

I would recommend keeping the mechanical pump, as they are quite reliable - only a couple of reported leaks that I have read about dunno..

blanking the oil ways and modifying the balancer shafts is quite easy to do 🙂

Ahh. sorry for not replying... After you suggested it I was wondering whether a pulley could be fitted onto the front of the existing water pump...

It seemed like quite a good plan - no extra piping, and there is already a hole and blanking plate over the front of the pump. I'm not sure whether that plate on the front of the engine would take the extra forces though...
