Fully mappable ECU would be the easiest solution. What would actually be most interesting is getting a car on a mappable ECU, mapping it and see if those maps can be used to build the right maps for the factory ECU. Map development with the factory ECU is a real pain. Default you can't do any realtime or quick modifications. Flashing a new map takes between 20 and 30 minutes. With a mappable ECU you can adjust everything realtime 🙂

Or we should be able to switch over to the ECU that is used on the 2.0 or 2.4 I think. Those should be GM's new powerpc based ECU's (the 2.2's is motorola based). As far as I know you can map those with hptuner. No idea how much such an ECU would be and if it would interface...

I'm seriously looking at a cable throttle set up (emerald doesn't support etb's - apparently it's an insurance thing, if the throttle stuck open they would be liable)

The cost is .... £1500 - £2000 including mapping

What's stopping me from going standalone is 'someone' is trying to crack the standard ecu, if they do then I will simply take my vx to them for a full mapping session 🙂

Remember reading here somewhere that it was possible to let the standard ECU handle the e-throttle, speedo, rev-meter and ABS even if all sensor signals to it were disconnected (throttle angle sensor, knock sensor, inlet air sensors, lambda sensors and crank sensor.

In that case there really wouldn't be a big problem with combining an aftermarket ECU with the standard ECU.

Yep I am currently investaging this with my engine all out.

I will try to switch on the car that way and look if the TB is still working..

By the way, with MY standalone (sybele CHallenger 4+), the ETB is supported, BUT not the tach

I know the throttle butterfly moves with the engine off but the ignition lights on 🙂

Hmmm, emerald ecu and the standard ecu as the etb driver....

it would still require the crank sensor for the rev counter dunno..

'map' 'air intake temp' sensors could be removed notsure.gif

coil pack would need modifying dunno..

a throttle pot would need adding to the etb somehow :?

the emerald could certainly take the rev counter with no problem, only the stupid ABS computed tach needs the ECU

Just a little feedback for this mod...

The car definitely feels smoother, especially when cold where it used to 'hickup' misfiring quite badly. There also seems to me some more torque in the mid-range which is exciting!!

I dont know if its the cold weather or this mod (probably both!), but induction noise has become somewhat louder. It was resonating my ear-drum at WOT @ 60mph yesterday! Feeling sorry for passengers now whos head is only about 10" away!

Long-ish term fuel efficiency has dropped around 3mpg... oh well, 13% isnt too bad!

Just done it...mid range pick-up has definitely improved cheers!! cheers..

BTW just replaced my 2nd air-con pipe grrrr! :evil: this time hae used some dexion to make a bracket from the 13 mm nut on the pot, 90 degree twist in the dex and used rocker cover bolt to secure to engine...looks ok so far...let's see if this stops the snap-off!! dunno..

The interesting thing will be how the change will be after a bit of driving. If you feel a change it is very probable that the fuel/air mixture is changed. It should be leaned out because of the lower fuel pressure. However, the ECU will notice this on its lambda sensor and adjust injection timings. This will ofcourse take some time, but it should go back to stock eventually.

well carried out this mod & the egr blanking must say have noticed a difference in pick up & have also noticed dont need to change down gears as much as before , Basically the car pulls from low down even in 3 rd gear when travelling @ 20 mph ...

Oh & thats without re-setting the ecu ... 8)

I have also done this today after being a numptie and figuring our "exactly" where the blanked off attachement is...

oh and i had 4 x the amount of hose i needed so if anyone wants some just pm me your address and i will get it out to you...

if the fpr vacuum pipe is close to the egr pipe get a longer piece, or it could melt :roll:

use the blanking plug from the inlet manifold to blank off the inlet pipe 'nipple' 🙂
Sorry if this is a stupid quistion but what part is the blanking plug inlet pipe'nipple'... dunno.. any pics would be greatly appreciated guys...

Vectra C Diesel inlet pipe, K&N Panel filter for orginal airbox.
Martelius exhaust system.

There is EGR pipe removed. I have it still. But some one could give me some kind of tips how to remove it?! What should I understand or can I just take it away and get some Blanking plate? Where did u get that blanking plate anywhere?

And fuel pressure pipe is inserted some other place. You have removed "nipple" and placed it there. But, explane me little more about this operation plz. I am a little n00b with these things.

But I understand that USA cars don`t have EGR valve at all. So we can take it away.

You can remove your EGR pipe and use a blanking plate made out of aluminium. You can make that yourself. You will also need to blank off the hole in your inlet manifold where the throttle body connects.

You can remove the rubber nipple on the side of the inlet and connect your vacume pipe to the exposed connection.

Yes, it helps a lot!
Now I know that I am not doing something really stupid. :lol:

So, I think I let that EGR pipe be and remove that when its little warmer weather. Its really windy and could in here and i don`t have a garage. 😃 But that vacume pipe project i will do/test soon.
