Sound Card Issue

Got a strange thing going on with the soundcard I bought from Si a few months ago. It works fine, and I get sound through the speakers when listening to Windows Media Player, but, I don't get sound for anything else notsure.gif

I've uninstalled the drivers and the Soundblaster software, and it's still the same. I've checked the obvious, like making sure the volume is turned up etc.

Any ideas?

That is odd.

Do you get any sound when windows boots / starts up?

What other apps is it not working with (powerDVD / winamp / realplayer)

I don't get any sound when windows boots / starts up. I don't get sound through IE or firefox, Outlook. I can get sound with Power DVD, so not sure whats happening?

couple of things you could check;
right click on soundcard in device manger, check for conflicts in resourses
or control panel/sounds and audio devices, check the default device is correct and the sound scheme is windows default.
Also have you recently installed anything?
Also try a system restore

Noticed it a couple of weeks ago, when I noticed that there was no sound when watching video clips through firefox. I don't have the speakers on very often, so can't tell you exactly when it started.

Could be a corupt/deleted firefox plug-in?

It's not just firefox though. It's when windows boots up/shuts down, I don't get any sound when I get a new e-mail in outlook 2007 either.

Try what Stinky says also check the settings in Soundblaster application

Surley if the card was faulty it would not have any output? notsure.gif what do you think?

Thats what I thought as well. I'm going to re-install Windows tomorrow, so I'll start from scratch and see what happens. I re-installed the Soundblaster application as well, and also the drivers for the soundcard. This one has got me stumped?

difficult if you dont know how long its been like that, sometimes though it can just be down to a bad install of xp. btw it doesn't happen to be an Audigy zs?

Erm, yeah I think it is. I'm on my laptop at the minute (thanks to Si for the new Harddrive 😃 ) I'll take a quick look in a minute

I think it was the Audigy Zs, no worries about the HDD glad that is what the problem was.

Ok then Matt dont worry too much, these cards are tempremental to say the least, you wont be the 1st to have probs, trust me i have one!
before you re-install check what driver version you have, then go here and d/l the latest; http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
If they are old drivers on the disc, it could be conflicting with recent windows updates!

BUT if your cards anything like mine, it will be one awkward mofo!! noth.

You could try to uninstall the old drivers and install the newer ones over the top, but if you have the time i would do a clean install! Nothing worse than buggy software!
