It's Beyond economical repair, as the screen is one of the most expensive parts these days. If I remember rightly only three manufacturers in the world make TFT screens and just re-sell them, however this doesn't seem to help when replacing them .......
Bear in mind, this laptop should have a monitor port on it which means you can use it for the purposes of getting all your information off. Just make sure it is plugged in before it's turned on and it should default to that monitor. Also the drive can be removed and plugged into an external USB holder available from Maplin for £20-30 if information on it is important.
