yeah it does, its the downpipe, flexi and cat all in one as shown in pic.

modeled on my dinning table so hope the mrs don't see the pics :lol:

andy any ideas what size the cat is ?

just wont see how much bigger the one on ebay is and it's a nightmare to get under mine 😃

oh dear another mod to do 🙂 is it a lot louder when removed? I cant be arsed with really loud exhausts when i'm driving (must be getting old!!) My car is a veccy c 22 sri non direct but has the dual backboxes.

I am guessing this would lead to an mot fail for emissions as well?

it's no much louder to be honest you may not even notice it 😃

It won't fail an Mot with the Pre cat removed, not sure if the Vectra C has this though notsure.gif . As for it being louder it won't make your normal system loud, it will sound just right 🙂

the vectra c has a different cat set up on it ,it is in the manifold and has a diferent pipe run so the pre cat mod dont apply to the vec c mate .......

hi,
just done the precat mod to my exhaust on the 2.2 'y'reg vectra i had just bought.
the exhaust was blowing from the flexi joint anyway so it was getting changed. it takes a bit of perseverence but you will get there in the end. i used two old flat point s/drivers, one was a med tip and other large.
held the pipe down on some rubber matting to asborb some of the impact shocks that could have travelled down the pipe to the cat.
i started with the med bit s/driver and worked around the edge to seperate the pre-cat from the outer pipe, then using the large flatpoint s/driver finished off the job to prize the offending item out.
once you do that you will need to smooth the internal area of the pipe from the remenants of the pre-cat.
job done and the flow of air should not be so restricted.
i will let you know how the car got on with the mot and service,

Hi guys ..

I'm proud to say I've joined the league of z22se drivers without a pre-cat. the car feels much better and the exhaust has a much nicer sound to it now.

I've read this thread (and others) to see if anyone had experienced the same problem I did. After removing the pre-cat and going for a drive, the emission light came on twice and the engine went into some sort of weird mode where it would stop responding to the accelerator pedal.

The problem has cleared itself now which leads me to think the ECU was having a whale of a time re-adjusting to the new exhaust gases. BTW I read the ECU for faults and couldn't find any.

Once the pipe was off the car I think it took me about 90 minutes to drill and lever out the pre-cat assembly. Then again I wasn't really timing, I'm on holidays so I had all week to do it 🙂

tried doing this mod but couldnt get the pre cat out in time, so put it back together ! pre cat a bit mashed, the only thing is now fuel comp is telling me im averaging 20 mpg sometimes less and emmision light has come on after 1 week - dam
can anyone tell me if they`ve had same trouble and if completing the mod will correct it ( after the ecu has relearned itself)

yes you need to remove the rest of the precat 🙂

then reset the ecu (disconnect battery for ten minutes) and take it easy for 30 miles or so 🙂

I've searched through endless threads today, but IIRC didn't someone on here manage to find a new downpipe without a pre cat ??

Does anyone know who/where they got it ??

Mines not in the best of health, so if I have to change it, it would be easier to buy one without a pre-cat :?

Have a look down this page. Hoffmann make one for the 2.2 without the pre-cat. I think they're around £410 delivered. I'm currently saving for one at the moment.
