cam chain changed

well i changed my chain yesterday and im glad i dont have to do it again for 100K!

ive done hundreds of cambelts but this was my first (and last) chain!

having the YTS hold the camshaft in place while i put the sprocket on he decided to slip causing me to nearly loose the end of my finger!
noth.
what would we do without YTS's?!! notsure.gif

but any way its done now and i can stop worrying about it snapping!

also it had the old style jet, chain and tensioner fitted but it wasnt rattling and its done 105K!

That`s good news, (that you changed it, not loosing your finger)
Wish I had the balls to do mine. Got to at least get it checked soon, just gone over 80K

Going to look at doing mine soon. It appears to have the new type tensioner, but I s'pose it's anyones guess as to whether the oil spray nozzle is the new type, or not...... :?

Sorry for the thread jack. Assuming my car has the old stuff fitted, does the new stuff come in a kit with the chain, if so waht parts will i need in total ? Is it only vauxhall that do the kits ?

yeah it all comes in a kit, the part numbers from vx are

12577385 chain kit
12584084 cam cover gasket
24435052 chain cover gasket
11589123 crankshaft bolt
90571925 crankseal

i got all the parts from vx as i have a friend who works there!!

ive seen them on ebay but not sure if there genuine vx parts or not!

theres no way of knowing unless you take the chain cover off and have a look, if your going to do that you might as well do the chain at the same time!

if in doubt, change it to be safe!! 😃

It's such a looong jobby on the VX220 - About 8hrs from what we've been told! :? But like you say, it's better to be safe than to be sorry. 🙂

it's not that much harder on the vx220, just fiddly :lol:

but check your engine number before spending any money, above **65400 have the later spec chain 🙂

Have you ever done a VX, if yes how long did it take you? 🙂 It takes someone I know about 8hrs.

Mine's about 100 cars after the chassis range, but is well within the affected engine number range.......... :?

I changed mine with the engine out, but by removing the rear offside wheel and arch liner you will have enough access.

the 8 hours is a first time chain change (even for vectra owners), it gets easier after changing a couple and should only take about 4 hours on a vx220 and 3 hours on an astra or vectra.

it took me 5 hours on my vectra and that was having a couple of cups of coffee and a bite to eat!! 😃
