I just brought a 2001 vec B with 82K on the clock, TA*** engine and chassis in the range that is meant to be affected. Given the advise I gleamed for a quick browse on this forum I checked the bolt - it had the cuts in the corners. Once I'd brought the car however a bit more research here suggested the bolt type was not conclusive so I contacted Vauxhall - who told me it wasn't included in the recall (doh, how many people have heard that one) and were meant to confirm as much in writting (not that I have received it).
However they did call me back and tell me that the air con pipe recall needed doing (Campaign 01/R/21) and to take it to a dealer. So I took it in to a local dealer and for my own peace of mind asked them to check the status of the timing chain recall and whether it had been done, not that there was any rattle, just that I didn't like the idea of driving around in a car that might suddenly go bang.
Thankfully my local dealer is a VX220 specialist and seemed immediately knowledgable about the issue. I got a call from them a bit later to say it needed the timing chain doing, they have now done it and I can drive away without fear of my engine blowing up! 😃 Thanks vauxhall.
From what I can gather, and this is by no means definite, Vauxhall seem to have missed the TA series of engines from the formal timing chain campaign 03-P-24 announment.
In summary if you need this done finding a good friendly dealer may be the best way rather than trying to go through Vaux Cust service.
