Dispell the myth, bolt type means nothing

I would just like to clarify the postion with respect to the timing chain bolt and the cuts in the corners. Unfortunatly they mean nothing as to whether the new or old oil nozzle is fitted. Talking to my local dealer the only way to tell is to look at the nozzle itself.

the cut-outs in the timing chain tensioner merely indicate the tensioner is the later type.

there was apparently a recall and they were all changed, but it only affected the very first few z22se's.

the timing chain oil jet has never had a recall and when they block the chain fails.

Hang on, the Field Remedy 1532 states "Modified timing chain and lubrication nozzle have been introduced...." ok it's not a recall - it is a field remedy in case of complaint but that is just semantics, it still highlights a problem. The fact this field remedy exists and that part of it is changing the nozzle would indicate a recall for the nozzle to me. Or am I misunderstanding something?

there was at least 65399 z22se engines worldwide which had the small oil jet :evil:

so that's 32.7 million pounds to fix (£500 each), they are not going to recall them are they :evil:

I agree, I had the bolt with the cut out corners but still had the old oil nozzle fitted. Interestingly enough the bolt had a gold dot on the head. The 3 sprockets that were replaced in the kit also had the gold dot marked on them. Not sure if these means they were replaced when the bolt was dunno..

Where do you get the figure of at least 65399 engines from? is this by the alleged affected number of engines via the engine numbers that Vauxhall say is in the range? notsure.gif Because I am sure I have seen a post some where on this site which I think may have been by you, where you say that there could be as many as 100,000 engines affected. :shock:

Or is it just the case that Vauxhall have no frigging idea, actually how many engines are affected because as we all know when Vauxhall say that they are not in the affected range, they still turn out to have the smaller oil jet and old style chain etc., :roll:

Finally has anybody on here had any repair work carried out by Vauxhall FOC or with a contribution on a vehicle older that 6 years? As I am still doing battle because mine was 6 years and 5 months @ 51,000 miles when the chain jumped teeth and good old Vauxhall are saying it's all down to me because it's over six years old and it needs a new engine !! all engine numbers below 65400 are affected + the TA engines so 100,000 is probably nearer the mark, so could be £50 million of recalls notsure.gif

Just to be sure - the cut outs on the tensioner nut do NOT mean you have had your chain and nozzle replaced. Mine had that type of nut - chain snapped doing tons of damage and nozzle was the old small hole type. Only way to be sure is take the covers of and have a look.

Hi guys, same here, is it easy to take the covers of to inspect the oil jet ? Can you even take a look at the oil jet wothout stripping the engine to the extent of 'you may aswell fit a new chain at this point?'

to look at the oil jet u need to take off quite abit so it would be worthwhile goin the whole hog and doin the chain

it takes about 30 minutes longer to replace the chain than inspect the oil jet :roll:

Cheers guys, im going to get mine done asap, its made a different nopise this week and i am worrying big time !!

Can i ask one more question !! i cant face trawling thorugh the cam chain issue forum !!! to change the kit what will i need to buy ? Does the new oil jet come with the chain kit from vauxhall ? If so whats the price and is it vauxhall only ?

🙂 I got it through A guy I know who works at Vauxhalls cost me £74 don't think they get much discount but I am not sure. You get the chain, nozzle, sprockets and new chain guides and all the bolts. The only other thing I had to buy was a new Crank Pulley bolt which was £3.75. I do not think you can buy patterned parts for this but I would not anyway it is too crucial to the engine. I used the Haynes book which was OK. All you need to know is on this forum - have a good browse through the other posts before you start. Cleanliness is essential so that you do not get any dirt into the small oil ways. A good mechanic should do it in a couple of hours but you can do it yourself IF your confident.
