Zafira 2.2 Cam Chain

Hi all,
Searched high & low for a Zafira 2.2.
Bought eventually an X Reg Elegance (32,000 miles), now read this BB and find that the Oil feed can be a problem.
Phoned the VX dealer who it was bought from and whom serviced it and they were very helpfull.
Checked their Records and said that Oil feed & chain had not been replaced.
Phoned VX Customer Service and was told that my vehicle had not been subject to any recalls. Pointed out that it was not a recall matter and that they hid the problem away, they replied that if it was going to go wrong it would have done so by now, er hallo it's only done 32,000 miles but their response was that yes but the parts are 6 years old????????????.
They refused to send a letter stating that the parts should be okay for normal operational use but they would send me a letter stating that the vehicle had not been subject to a recall(fat lot of good).
Now I don't think the chain rattles but I am retired and both my wife and I are disabled and diabetic and the last thing we need is the engine to blow up.We travel to Cornwall and would like to go to Scotland but I don't trust it now.
Anybody any ideas on what to do next. :roll:
Wish I had bought a Honda CRV instead.

change the oil and oil filter every 5000 miles 🙂

just because you might have the earlier chain kit doesn't mean it's going to snap dunno..

listen for a rattle on cold start up, this is the first sign the chain is going 🙁

engine numbers above **64500 have the newer chain, so check your engine number.

Best bet would be to get it changed for the newer type nozzle. Once it's done you can relax for sure. If I plan to keep a 2.2 Vauxhall I will make sure I got the chain done so I knew it would last a very long time. The 2.2 is a great engine and you will love the car you have bought. Benny on here can do the chain and parts alot cheaper than Vauxhall can. Have a read in the cam chain section and see how many chains he has done. Like I said get it changed anyway and you can relax for years to come. Welcome to the forum 🙂

I agree with Vocky, if you do have the earlier chain kit fitted there's nothing to say it will snap. I had my chain changed last year for peace of mind and there was no rattling. When it was being done it was found i had the earlier chain and nozzle fitted. My car had around 115k on the clock at the time so a lot more than your zafira. Regular oil and filter changes help a lot but won't stop it completey.

If you can afford it i'd recommend getting it changed, there is a guy on here called Benny based in Wolverhampton who changes the chain for around the £250 mark. if thats local to you it might be an option.

I was going to leave mine till I heard a rattle. If this happened then I would get the car to the garage and get it changed. However I have read many reports of chains snapping without ANY noise or rattle being evident. These are also from owners that have a full service history.

You can leave it but if it snaps you are in for a big bill. To much of a risk for me to take so I had it sorted by Benny. Really helpfull guy and knows his stuff. Benny can fix it for the cost of two services 😃
