so weird how both my z22se's have the 100Amp alternator :?

I can understand a vectra having the 120 Amp alternator, but why a vx220 notsure.gif

Looked at mine earlier....with the standard manifold on i can get my index finger comfortably between the mani and alternator...

Just stuck my hand into my vx220 and there is about an inch vertical clearance and a horizontal overlap of about an inch.
Is this good?

So, for my understanding:

If you have a 120 Amp alternator it needs to be swapped for a 100 amp one?

Is there anyway of telling what alternator you have ( on a vx220) without removing the existing manifold?

small theory atm, not enough data to confirm but

100amp alternators may be held on with torx head bolts

the 120amp I did at the weekend was held on with 13mm bolts

should be able to see/or feel them

other wise you may be able to see the back of the alternator from underneath altho very tight space

No, it is not a Dutch emissions thing 🙂. The ECU has a table which has the throttle position and how much air pressure to expect in the manifold for that position. It will compare that to the actual measured pressure in the manifold by the MAP sensor. If they differ more then 30kPa, it will log the P1514.

So if you have better flow then my engine (by fitting cams, flowed head, bigger valves, wasted stem valves, exhaust manifold) the pressure difference will be less. As long as it is within this tollerance you should not see P1514.

The problem is though, that we know with Vocky's state of tune it isn't a problem, but we don't know where the crossover point is.

Well Chaps, Mark was right 🙁 With the 66mm TB fitted my ecu kept going into limp mode. Fault code P1514, throttle position fault. Cross referance it to the TIS program and it says check the Map sensor. I Know there is nothing wrong with mine, and even swapped it for a new one at my mates garage and the same fault comes up. Had it plugged into the proper Vauxhall tech 2 machine and checked the feedback of the TB, no problems there, so looks like mark is spot on! the flow is just so god damn good through the new inlet and TB the presure vacume drops below the ECU Map table.

Going to call John Thorn sometime in the week and see if the new softwear packages there writing can sort it out.

Shame.. I was hoping I was wrong and it was some kind of issue with the ECU on my car, but it doesn't sound like it is if you have the same problem 🙁

Forgot to remind people that ive got piper cams in, so perhaps you need a full ported polished head to avoid the fault? Either way, i'm reasonably sure a remap can sort it out and its nice to know that the mods obviously drastically improve air flow.

I would have a bracket mate...I presume these are for the ECU? Perhaps it might be better starting an new thread to get a list going??
